I have some latent memory of speculation that this was an intended thing early on in production, before Mulgrew stepped into the role even, but they abandoned it like most other interesting and innovative ideas. I wouldnt know where to look as far as sources go however.
It certainly would put a different spin on her attitudes towards fraternizing with the crew. Personally I’m not really keen or sold on the ‘bisexual utopia’ trend that Lower Decks presents, since I think there’s both room and potential for characters who are just more reserved about their sexuality.
Hell, it wouldve made the early governess holodeck schtick far more interesting if it was done as an early insight into that aspect of her character.
