Fuck that former employee
You aren’t being stolen from, a company is.
You aren’t losing money, the company is
You don’t gain anything by interfering, the company does
You don’t get rewarded, you have rewarded the company (assuming you stop the theft)
YOU DON’T MAKE ENOUGH MONEY TO CARE ABOUT SHOPLIFTERS
I don’t care how much you make. You don’t make enough.
If you, as someone with a lower quality of life (relative to the rich) than a medieval peasant and who definitely doesn’t have the money to take care of potential medical bills thy arise from a potential altercation.
I cannot fathom caring so much about a company’s profits that I intervene in any shoplifting.
Note: when I worked for a sporting goods retailer, the ONLY thing I ever did was inform a manager when I believe someone was stealing ammo for a gun. Never gave a shit about clothing, food, or even sports equipment, but in my opinion there’s very few reasons to steal firearm ammunition, almost none of them involve a needy person who will use them for benefit.
If you see someone shoplifting, especially from a company, no you fucking didn’t

7·3 days agoThe reason is sexism.
Either people believe the wives to be innocent because something something men suck women are the best and can do no wrong unlike evil men,
Or
People believe the wives re innocent becausw they think the women too dumb to know what was going on or too disinterested to find out.
Both are sexist bullshit pushed by people who don’t understand the rich are all in it together, and are all opposed to being held accountable by the poors
Pffffft. Speak for yourself.

3·5 days agoThey really aren’t unless it’s a solid brick/concrete internal wall.
Even Americans, who are surrounded by guns, do not understand just how much a bullet can go through. I don’t expect people who aren’t exposed to guns every day to know.
About 15 years ago, my Minecraft server admin lived in Columbus Ohio, and a stray bullet from a car chase went through his car door and went through his abdomen and seat, and almost went through the opposing door.
My grandparents had a bullet go completely through their house, both exterior walls, and 3 interior walls, before the bullet got lodged in the brick wall of the church across the street.
I myself have attended events that demonstrated the penetration power of pistols, rifles, and shotguns.
Protip for anyone who wants to have something for home decence but is concerned about neighbors, use a shotgun with either target shot or birdshot. Drywall won’t stop it, but it will seriously limit the damage it does to anything on the other side of the wall.

16·7 days agoI know too many cisgenderd AFABs that do it to think it’s just a man thing.
I also know a couple guys with small ones and they also for the most part aren’t like that either, so it’s definitely not size.
Proposed consensus: maybe they’re just assholes?
I ALSO had to wait for every new episode of ds9 and voy. I wasn’t of watching-and-following age for most of tng. So I had to wait for re-runs. And hope they were aired in order since sometimes they only aired half a two-parter.
I need to get them moved over to my hard drive, I think I have all the dvds…

I’ll add Voyager to that trek list.
And +1 for BSG, I’ve always loved the show. I actually just watched the first two episodes again this past week, but for the first time I decided to smoke some weed first.
Holy shit I get WAY more into the show when I’m baked… Like I was trying not to cry when the 60 FTL capable ships left the other 20ish behind and they focused on the little girl playing with her bear as the nukes detonated…
And hearing everyone go from a solemn, muttered “so say we all…” to a strong, purposeful “SO SAY WE ALL!”

I really like the bits of the Expanse I’ve seen. I absolutely love how realistic they portray space life, especially combat. After a few episodes I realized it was one long continued story, and the series was still being worked on, I lost all drive to finish it.
I’ll pick it back up eventually, it just feels like sitting down to watch a 200 hour movie, rather than a TV show.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•What's your contingency plan for the apocalypse?English
21·8 days agoMy plan is “I’ll probably be dead” but if not, I have enough parts to cobble together a solar charging station, and keep my laptop running for a few days between needing to let everything charge back up.
I have one off-site backup on an hdd inside a faraday bag and waterproof case that I back up once a week(ish) and after every project. I have local backups daily, one in a faraday box.
I have never once needed any of them and honestly if shit hit the fan hard enough, I will likely never be in a position where having backups for digital information will matter again. I’ll probably at most have my old phone/battery/solar charger combo that’s in a case in the garage, I keep a ton of survival references, maps, and things like that on it.

102·8 days agoFor the same reason someone would have asked “why is building a large, complex and hard to produce solar panel more economical than churning out an equivalent number of coal plants?” decades ago.
It’s improving the tech, which could eventually far and away outpaced every other energy producer. Maybe not now, but in the future. Some are just gung-ho about trying to produce a bunch when they’re not quite ready.
But it’s also just because wealthy people tend to be more educated because that’s how they got wealthy

But they get to be super unique to people on the interwebs though, and that’s more important than some random unknown person’s differing abilities.
