20, trying to figure life out . doing trading, learning dispatching, studying too, its a lot at once. feel like im always in grind mode and forgot how to just enjoy stuff. currently im financially dependent on my parents…

had some bad losses in trading lately, took a short break and now trying to actually fix my risk management before going back in

if you’re older and already been through your 20s, what do you wish someone told you back then? like what actually mattered vs what you thought mattered at the time

also anyone here into manifestation/law of attraction, does it actually work for you? not asking to like wish for money lol, more curious how you actually get into a good headspace and stay there day to day

Don’t do trading. Unless you’ve got millions you’re spending hours making dollars, if you win more than you lose at all. It’s fine if it’s a hobby but treat it as such.

Manifesting: does not work outside of your head. If it gets you in a good mental state then by all means do it. Being in a good mental state is just about all that matters.

What worked for me: buy and hold. Find people you like being around. Figure out why you like being around them and try to be more like them.

Buy and hold. Trust in the compounding and dont try to outguess the market because you can’t.

    | does manifestation actually work

only the part where you are doing shit to make things happen works. I guess if you have nothing left to do towards a goal then doing affirmations doesn’t hurt to use it to make yourself feel better, but it’s not going to make something happen for you.

Don’t bother with trading. Timing the market is a fool’s game. It’s all about time in the market. Just stick your money in and let it sit there. As you age you will want to move your money to safer investments and focus more on wealth preservation.

Also focus on spending time with your loved ones and doing things that make you happy. When people are at the end of their lives, no one wishes that they had grinded harder or obtained a higher status.

Also not realistic to be in a good headspace everyday. You’re just going to burn yourself out trying to do that. You’re going to have bad days. You’re going to have slow days. Just do your best and hope that tomorrow will be better.

Not to be harsh, but trading and manifestation are not going to get you anywhere. Focus on your studies and relationships, try new activities, keep off drugs, exercise and eat healthy.

Yeah, the boring stuff is how you make life good.

Manifestation is just wishful thinking. If you want your life to change, you have to take the actual steps to change it.

Good for you getting out. Don’t get back in. No more day trading. Day trading is anti-social shithead behavior, anyway. If you don’t feel bad for doing it, take a closer look. It doesn’t pass any kind of pro-social test.

if you’re older and already been through your 20s, what do you wish someone told you back then?

Someone did tell me this, but I was a stupid kid. I followed it, but I started stupdily late.

Maybe you’re smarter than I was, but forgive yourself later if you’re not - you’re at least in good company.

    Here is is:

"Time in the market always beats market timing. Buy conservative things with real value - ideally that routinely pay a dividend. Hold on to them.

However powerful you think you know compounding interest is, you’re wrong. It’s substantially more powerful than that.

Get it - compounding interest - on your side right now, and keep it there, anytime you can.

Don’t take out any debt that you can possibly avoid."

Unless you have insider trading knowledge, start with a huge amount of money, or find some other way to cheat, Trading is just gambling.

If you want to invest, put your money in index funds. I used to say the SP500 or 100, but unfortunately Musk has been allowed to just offload his losses into those funds.

SP500 High Dividend Yield (Other companies have similar) are a decent option, they focus on the 500 companies with historically high dividends.

if you’re older and already been through your 20s, what do you wish someone told you back then? like what actually mattered vs what you thought mattered at the time.

    1. Stay active, you don’t need to be in the gym 24/7, but find something athletic that you enjoy doing, try to stay in the habit of doing something athletic for an hour every other day at a minimum.

    2. Avoid the sugar trap. I get it, soda tasts good, cookies taste good, but the more sugar you eat, the harder it is to avoid sugar later. Get in the habit of eating healthy while you are 20, it will save your life later.

    3. Learn to snack better (if you are a snacker). Snacking is fine, snacking on poptarts, mini doughnuts and soda will kill you. I use chia-seed pudding when I am getting snacky, very low calorie, and as a bonus it has a lot of fiber. Make it with a nice tea, and its a tasty, healthy snack that can last the whole time between lunch and dinner.

    4. Avoid the manosphere/redpill/Christian Values/Alpha Male trap. It doesnt impress the ladies, it wont make you friends, it just makes you miserable (and then telling you that its everyone elses fault, but they totally see how great you can be if you just buy this 69.99 protein powder).

    5. (And this is probably the most important) Learn to not be a an asshole, the bar is literally so low for men that just being a decent human being will get you plenty of attention. Learn to be respectful when women say no, learn to not care if somebody else is gay/trans/black/fat/bald etc, and especially learn to not make fun of people for it. Learn to talk to people, and hang out without putting them down. Learn to be genuinly happy for others successes, and how to build up others.

This will make you actual friends that stay with you, will impress the ladies (seriously, im of average looks and build, and I have a GF, 2 FWB and 2 more sometimes partners, all just from being an actually kind, decent, safe person), and will set you up to have a much more fulfilling life.

    Manifestation is bullshit.

Don’t trade your money away. Open a Traditional and Roth IRA, put some money in those accounts for retirement, and don’t touch it. You’ll literally be penalized if you do.

If you have parents, loved ones, or even for yourself: Prepare a trust. Don’t wait until you or anyone is on your deathbed to make those arrangements. It may seem insignificant now, but even the smallest item you possess will need to be disputed if you die, so don’t make that a hassle for any future children or your relatives. And don’t worry, trust are flexible, you have the final say, so make as many changes to it as you need to. As fractured as the relationship with my father was, him prepping a will, trust, advanced medical directive and a memorandum made inheriting his possessions much less of a hassle than it would’ve been otherwise.

Don’t put all your eggs in one basket when it comes to a career. Be flexible with your skillset and be willing to work the smaller jobs just to get experience and some money, even if they don’t align with your big career plans, because they’ll still offer experience that you can carry with you. I’m a year and a half out of work because I put all my eggs into IT and Data Analysis.

Make sure you’re in a good headspace before jumping into a relationship. Take it at your own pace. Most importantly, be upfront with your partner about what you want out of the relationship, whether it’s a one-night stand, or a long-term relationship. And make sure you both communicate what you want. I only had five months of dating experience back in high school, and my most recent relationship ended after a week because I was so desperately acting on signs that weren’t there, which led me to ignoring my own boundaries and hurting my ex because I was two-faced.

Make sure to set boundaries and protect yourself above all else. You’re no good to anyone if you’re no good to yourself. Take time to recharge. If you’re not feeling up to something physically, emotionally or mentally, it’s okay to cancel or step back. Just don’t make a habit of it. As a people pleaser, I would overload my plate with saying yes to nearly everyone and everything, trying to be the “nice guy” or “helpful steward” when I was really allowing myself to be strung along because I couldn’t say no. Learning to say “no” is so important for yourself and for those you love.

Just invest in mutual funds, max out your roth ira contributions every year. Don’t try and make a living by trading, set aside 10-15% of your income to mutual funds and leave it there until you’re old. Get a job and max out your contributions, or at least max out employer contributions.

    Wear sunblock.

When reality challenges your ideology, engage with the challenge in earnest. It’s okay to be unwise and ignorant in your early 20s, but if with time you did not gain wisdom and experience, you’re gonna have a very bad time going forward. By the time you’re in your 30s, you should be able to encapsulate and verbally explain what you believe in, both about the universe as a whole and about yourself.

Stick to your word as well as you can.

Being good is more important than being comfortable.

Don’t let fear stop you from trying to reach your goals, many times whatever you’re afraid of is simply not real or not as bad. And yes, this includes talking to women.

Also, if you’re always chasing money, you’ll lose your humanity. Remember it should just be a tool, a means to an end and not the end by itself, else you’ll become an empty shell of a person, a resource hog or even a hedonistic monster.

Finally, always take the high road and let the guilt following actions taken in moments of poor character wash over you. If you don’t let it stay with you, if you run from accountability, you will just become a dangerous child.

PS: You’re too old (like, maybe a decade and a half too old) and probably have too much testosterone to believe in “manifestation”. Might as well wait for Christmas and write a letter to Santa. You just do your best and hope for the best (for the sake of your emotional stability AND to give yourself the best chances to accomplish what you set out to do).

There’s no magic answer. My best advice having wasted half my life trying to accomplish what seemed like a “good life” I ended up nearly broke and divorced with almost nothing but suffering to show for my time.

Now I pursue what makes me happy and only try to be as successful as I need to be so that I can keep doing what makes me happy. One day I’ll be dead, and then whatever pile of shit I accumulated will be unceremoniously thrown in the trash by a distant relative. But if I can build something or help someone, then that’s what I feel like doing with my time. Its not hedonism but its sort of a disengage ment from the rat race. Im not trying to get rich or gain power, I’m trying to relax and enjoy my life and help people while I can.

If you’re asking about head space, that might be your first sign of burn out. Stop it. Pick a stable, well performing ETF and regularly invest in it. Forget about it for 40 years.

Actual advice: Go to the gym or be otherwise active. I’ve been overweight my whole life (am software engineer) and just recently started investing in MYSELF. The workout sucks, but the results in the morning shower and the mirror feel good. Remember, after ~32 it becomes harder and harder to build and maintain muscle mass.
