- Public housing is a very good thing and needs to be expanded.
- However people will still be people and crimes will still happen, so some kind of law enforcment will still be needed.
- Same goes for jobs, some people will simply have better jobs, better pay, nicer homes, jealousy doesn’t just disappear becase you get a home and a job.

It is fine to say that you have no idea, so why even bring this up for discussion?
You make it too complicated.
For me the question is simple.
I get assaulted and robbed, who can I turn investigate and capture the perpetrators?
This was exactly what I wanted to say! Thank you!

politics @lemmy.world•Nobel Institute rejects Machado's peace prize offer to TrumpEnglish
5·2 days agoDidn’t she accept the award, I know she went to Oslo, the news here in Sweden had a big report on it.
Hummm, I don’t know if the issue is on my side, but I only see a corrupt image that never finished loading.
But hey, it’s monday morning so it seems fitting.
Before abolishing the police you need to have an idea of what is going to replace it.
This post offers no ideas.
I also wonder if they mean, abolish the current police force, or the concept of a police force.
I can understand the former, but the latter makes no sense to me.
I think Helvetesgränd sounds far more dramatic than “hells alley”, mostly due to it containing the letter “r” so you can roll it in your mouth for added effect.

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•"The trolley made me fear for my life"English
71·4 days agoThis is unrealistic, dead man switches has been a common part of trains and trams since the 1930s or so, it is therefore highly improbable that any tram operating would lack that critical piece of safety equipment.
Thus it is ridiculous to assume that the tram would continue on after the driver has been killed.
I refuse to participate further with this preposterous charade.

4·4 days agoCan’t capture the pieces if they are eaten
Two reasons:
- Because Reddit killed the API , which in turn killed the apps.
- It sounds funnier
It is like “X formerly known as Twitter”
“Steve Huffman - also known as /u/Spez, former mod of /r/jailbait”
Also known as the apicalypse
Yeah, same, when the apicalypse hit I was gone.
The apicalypse.
I have always found this photo annoying, it implies that monorails are a good public transport, when they absolutely are not.
Also it shows flying cars still following lanes and sitting in rush hour traffic, only now you can’t get out of the car if you need to.

Technology@lemmy.world•Dell says the quiet part out loud: Consumers don't actually care about AI PCs — "AI probably confuses them more than it helps them"English
13·6 days agoI’d much rather have a more powerful generic CPU than a less powerful generic CPU with an added NPU.
There are very few people who would benefit from an added NPU, ok I hear you say what about local AI?
Ok, what about it?
Would you trust a commercial local AI tool to not be sharing data?
Would your grandmother be able to install an open source AI tool?
What about having enough RAM for the AI tool to run?
Look at the average computer user, if you are on lemmy, chances are very high that you are far more advanced than the average computer user.
I am talking about those users who don’t run Adblocker, don’t notice the YT ad skip button and who in the past would have installed a minimum of of five toolbars in IE, yet wouldn’t have noticed the reduced view of the actual page.
These people are closer to the average users than any of us.
Why do they need local AI?

News@lemmy.world•Woman who dismembered her landlord wins $3m as part of ongoing lawsuitEnglish
1·7 days agoWhile the headline is technically correct, it is an insane level of clickbait.
The lawsuit had nothing to do with the murder case, she was injured in an accident and started a lawsuit about that.
Swede here, I have said it before, and I’ll say it again:
The Social Democratic is the best ideology humanity has found.
It combines the safety nets of government run services with the powerful incentive of a free market.
Sure, not all sectors are included in the free market, essential services like public transport, power, water, sewage, hospitals, schools, and similar stuff that you need to live and participate in society should be run by the government, and not just by decree, but actually running them.
Anything more should be on a (regulated) free market.
Progressive tax brackets should be kept st a high level, with a public highscore list with a awards like fancy dinners, medals, and other symbols of status for paying a lot of tax, creating more incentives to pay tax.
That to me sounds like a good society

Depends on if you have analog cabled headphones, like the Meze Empyrians or the Philips X2HR Fidelio, then they are analog, but wireless or even digital headphones with USB/Lightning has ram.
