Fucking worthless. Without new leadership, the Democratic Party is just a bunch of collaborators and enablers.
Oh, looks like the search for their spines was called off.
It is time for Blue No Matter Who to be left in the past. It is getting people killed and 7 Dems showed why in real time the who does matter in who you elect.
Yes blocking Republicans is important but also putting the right people in power is just as important.
I’d do anything to never hear this BS slogan again from cowardly people who think peaceful acts are the only way to get things done
It is important to support better Democrats in the primaries. But right now, even the worst Democrat is better than the best Repiblican.
I remember after getting pepper sprayed in DC at a protest against W’s Iraq war being told, “we need more and better democrats, vote for better ones in the primary and then whoever wins the primary in the general”
I’ve been doing that for over 2 decades now. Nothing has gotten better, everything has gotten worse, the party is effectively openly corrupt and openly controlled opposition.
I remember the gut punch in the lead up to 2020 when Bernie Sanders was winning primaries and the entire party decided to coalesce around Biden, all the other centrist candidates dropped out and threw their support behind him so he could win a bunch of primaries in states that would go on to vote Republican in the general election. But it was enough, the party was able to knee cap a better candidate and get Biden in office.
I remember thinking then that we had not pulled the country back from the edge of disaster, we had merely pressed pause. That a Biden administration wouldn’t do the things necessary to prevent another trump. Four years later I get to watch as a lawless paramilitary kills people in an American city that’s effectively under siege by the federal government while king trump is somehow back in the White House.
I’ll probably still vote for the Dems in the elections because it’s the best tactical move, but I’ve found it’s a terrible strategic move. The party is a failure, it is completely captured and currently aligned with fascism. They are sending me pleas to donate to their fight fund while their members cross the aisle to vote to give the ICE more money, more power, more funding.
The Democratic Party will not save us, they show us again and again they have no interest in that.
When they side with the Republicans, the worst Democrats are no different than the Republicans.
Who are the morons voting for these “worst democrats” in the primaries?
Why are there so many of them?
How do we hold them accountable for their contribution to the problem?
They’re Americans. The key thing is that relatively few people vote in primaries; on average about 20% of eligible voters, but in some places, as low as 3%. This means that turnout greatly impacts ideology, which in turn means that the money to run a turnout operation during the primaries makes a huge difference. So electing better Democrats means four things:
- Mobilize your friends
- Volunteer when you can
- Give what you can afford
- Actually vote during primaries
So you honestly think dem leadership is better as they keep supporting or not even challenging Trump?
Blue If They Are True needs to be the new motto.
What’s the alternative? More republicans? We live in a shitty two party system.
Funding bill let Democrats make a statement without creating a standoff.
That’s a very optimistic way of saying “lets Democrats make a feeble token gesture of mild disagreement while still going along wholly with the fascist program.”
Democrats always manage to muster up enough votes to get Republican legislation passed, and the rest of the party can distance themselves saying we voted no. They’re all complicit.
Rotating villain strategy.
Who could have seen this coming? I, for one, am now satisfied that the democrats did everything they possibly could do. They really sent a strongly worded letter here, and I’m all for it. Great work guys!
What they can potentially do is have the Senate shut down other parts of the government in protest.
ICE is already funded for years to come; it will take an affirmative vote to remove that money, and you can’t do that when in the minority.
Optics. They need to be taking more extreme measures. The fact that ICE is funded for quite a while is not a good reason to capitulate to the republicans. They continue to prove, time and again, that they are unwilling to take drastic action to stop the fascists. They’d rather play by the rules, and lose.
They’d rather play by the rules, and lose.
The rules made by fascists.
The so-called representatives of the people aren’t doing shit. So it’s up to the people themselves.
What a stupid game.
DHS spending bill passed 220-207
7 Democrats voted in favor:
- Henry Cuellar
- Don Davis
- Laura Gilles
- Marie Gluesenkamp Perez
- Jared Golden
- Vicente Gonzalez
- Tom Suozzi
Massie voted No
Andy Harris didn’t vote
Might not have passed if every Democrat voted No, but leadership wasn’t whipping them to do so
Please note that Henry Cueller is the senior house rep on the Appropriations Committee. If Dems retake Congress, he will be the chair of the committee in the House that controls all the money
They weren’t whipping up no votes because this is what they wanted. Democrats love the tools of a police state as much as Republicans.
And because Jeffries gave him all his appointments back after Trump pardoned him for corruption.
Just a side note- ICE/BPC is fully funded through the Big Bullshit Bill, so shutting the gooberment down won’t stop the madness.
Not saying this is you, but for a very long time, the moderate argument is, “we can’t get a total victory here, so we shouldn’t bother resisting Republicans” and, frankly, I’m done with that line of thinking. If it makes Republicans life harder, it must be done. If they have to explain to their voting base why they aren’t willing to make ICE agents unmask in order to keep TSA staffed at airports, that is worth making them do. I don’t expect a miracle, I expect a spine
I agree. Our rights are not a place for compromise.
Agreed. Totally agree.
If only one side ever compromises, it’s not compromise, it’s capitulation.
I’m more in the way of limiting expectations as well as pointing out that every measure, every appointment, every vote is a new battle.
We’re in the place we are because dems have been capitulating for as long as I’ve been voting (longer, probably.)
(I may be pissed at klobechar for voting to confirm appointments.)
Edit to add: maybe they shouldn’t have voted to approve cloture, hmmm?
I feel like most folks dislike TSA enough that them being understaffed may be seen as a bonus.
Cowards.
I’m done with these pussy fuck Democrats. Bunch of useless pacifist dipshits. Notice how the only states that are impotently dealing with ICE have leftists who all voted for statewide gun control laws and are totally reliant on the mere hope that local law enforcement to protect them? They were okay with cops getting equipment up to par with an actual army? Why aren’t their huge budget militarized cops doing something?
make a statement
