Are raccoons actually domesticated at this point? I thought they were still in a state where they’re tamed at best.
Either way, a Raccoon with floppy ears and piebald spots (both traits that seem to commonly pop up when a species is domesticated) would be so darn cute
They are mostly wild, but there are a few examples of keeping them as pets popular on social media. For now, a domesticated raccoon is more of a distant dream than reality (also because many states in the U.S. won’t allow it, not sure on laws in the EU and other countries).
There are city racoons that seem to be developing early domestication traits.
There are researchers who collect geotaged pictures of racoons, and the ones in cities have shorter faces than their country cousins.
So yeah, give it a few hundred years and we might get fully domesticated racoons.
