One time I was seated near to Denise on a flight and she was drunk as a LORD, but now I understand it’s probably something Rick did. This was like 2016 and anyway this story has no point

Technically, her last scenes were in Redemption, as Sela. And her last scenes as Tasha were in Yesterday’s Enterprise.

But Rick Berman is, has been, and always will be scum. The way he treated the women on-set was worse than Roddenberry.

Only idiots dislike it for that reason. I dislike it because of its atrocious writing, and its attempts to be progressive are incredibly shallow because the writers are out of touch hollywood socialites.

I’ve been rewatching TOS. Atrocious writing, you say?

What do you think is shallow about their attempts at being progressive? Having multiple POC and LGBTQ characters, including a married couple seems like the next logical step for the series and is still fairly progressive for a mainstream sci-fi series. Even The Orville, which I’ve heard people say is better than nutrek, is barely as progressive as even TNG. What did they do wrong with these characters? Genuinely. My main issue with nutrek is the melodrama. So many times while watching Discovery my wife and I would be saying to the screen “You’re all about to die, you can hug cry and talk later!”

Just having POC and LGBTQ representation isn’t all that’s needed to deliver a progressive message. You also need to incorporate plotlines that thoughtfully explore themes related to their modern-day struggles. Old trek, namely TNG and DS9, did this well because they had writers that were genuinely progressive for their time (and even for this time if we’re being honest) and actually understood the politics. Despite being held back on direct representation (Garak and Bashir), they were still able to get their message across through the plot structure and story beats.

Nutrek goes all-in on representation, but completely falls flat when they attempt to go any deeper because they don’t understand the issues.

He probably doesn’t remember. Dude’s 80 years old. I’ve never met anyone over the age of 70 who wasn’t effectively mentally disabled.

disliking their politics doesn’t excuse ageism nor ableism. the fact that y’all jump there so readily and none of the mods do anything is telling.

Why would mods remove opinions? I’m allowed to say kids are stupid just as much as elderly are stupid, and humans are stupid. I can’t however say that you are stupid as that would suddenly be a direct insult, not an opinion about age group.

Don’t know about Berman’s mental state, but I know of plenty of old people who didn’t lose their marbles. My granny for one remembers anything since the dawn of time or at least from her 95 years of living.

That’s actually such a sweet piece of Trek history — props like that are basically “physical memories.” Also, wild how much lore can live in something the size of a coin. 🖖
