ICE’s effort to create a national voter database is part of a much broader effort within the Department of Homeland Security and the Trump administration to undermine trust in the upcoming midterm elections. For more than a year, the Department of Justice has been seeking to create a national voter database by demanding states hand over unredacted voters rolls. States and courts, however, have pushed back.
DHS has already demanded states comply with its investigations. The agency has also said it would withhold emergency preparedness and counter terrorism funding from states who refused to implement White House policies on elections. And the agency has gone after voters directly, threatening to deport those suspected of voting illegally even when they have no criminal convictions. Despite assertions from DHS and the Trump administration, incidents of noncitizens voting are vanishingly rare, with an investigation in Georgia this week finding very few examples.
DHS also announced a new surge to investigate alleged voter fraud in certain states ahead of the midterms, to “pursue investigative leads, conduct field interviews, and support timely prosecutorial review,” according to internal DHS guidance that was first reported by CNN this week.

Let me guess, being in the new voter database is going to be mandatory in order to vote. And for a whole lot of registered Democrats in swing states: “oops. Looks like you are missing from the database. Please come back later to try voting again.”
It already is in most states, they’re just federalizing a state database which is illegal and arguably the bigger database in general is illegal.
The courts can’t well side with the feds here ultimately. They are not secure enough to issue such an open repudiation of the Bill of Rights, I don’t think. They will be belatedly forced to uphold states’ rights to some degree, while trying to give a back door to dumpystiltskin there.
Let’s be real. This is to record how you vote.

Probably just going to pay a trump donor who has an IT consulting business. They might write and app and buy a few public databases to feed it.
It’s a database, 5 million pays for a lot of database. The numbers we are bombarded with are astronimically high, and we forget to imagine, say, what a thousand thousands is. Then a thousand of those, Then of those in ttillions.
The numbers are staggering, defying market fundamentals seemingly.
Registering as a republican seems to be the way these days. Vote however you like, but you can bet your ass that of you register as dem, chances of harassment and being removed during “voter roll cleanup” increases under this administration.
Washington does it right: no registering with any party.

That Immigration and Customs Enforcement does this only shows they overstepped their legal bounderies. They have become a full-fledged general purpose population suppression apparatus.
