UK, Germany, Canada and France have high homelessness rates. Partly because disability pay is low and healthcare costs are minimally made up for. Those in ill health may not be able to find work and land on the streets. These countries do nothing substantial like building housing and implementing pro-tenant reforms to stop it. This is not to say that healthcare is bad, I think healthcare must be socialised like postal services and the fire brigade, but it’s not at all straight forward.

Why are we not seeing that with speakers or glasses? Or headphones? There are smart speakers that blast ads when used with the “correct” software. That’s been the case since before 2016, but it’s not how things generally are. But I still have my ad-free headphones, ad-free computer, ad-free so on and so forth electronic devices. Nobody knows how libre hardware and infrastructure will advance in the next ten years. Removing ads from a smart monitor, should the tech ever happen to gain dominance, will be as easy as connecting a USB C cable and hitting ‘flash’ on a website.

This belief that everything will turn into a dystopia is as unfounded and unrealistic as the belief that life 10 years from now will be utopian. Just because a news outlet spins up a story does not mean it’s going to be the direction things are headed.

TVs have always been standalone products that do more than just display an image. Monitors on the other hand serve only this purpose.

You need to get to the places where you are doing your job, there is tons of communication involved, then there is editing and proper archival stuff you need to do, accounting is also completely different from that of an uber driver’s, and it’s not just the camera that costs more than 5K (looking at you BRIESE and any basic lens set – telephoto, normal, wide angle, zoom, low light will quickly exceed the 15K mark if you care about professional standards). It’s really a whole thing.

No, even this is a very bad idea. Ideally, no books are destroyed. A close relative of mine works as an archivist. They have tons of examples of how digitising and then destroying can create extra burdens. The data on hard drives or flash devices is too fragile.
