The fact that TNG has this handful of objectively amazing episodes is what keeps it right on top of the whole history of the franchise. They weren’t all good, but when TNG was great it was REALLY great.
This one doesn’t hit me like that but Family (S4E02) for sure does. I pretty much always skip it but sometimes it shows up on random and I don’t notice.
Thats “The Visitor” for me.
I’ve seen that episode exactly twice and I don’t think I’d make it through a third watch, it’s SO sad.
As far as TNG goes, I also find “The Offspring” to be really sad. Data’s speech about downloading her memories into his neural net gets me every time.
