I’m not complaining about downvotes in general. I dislike people who downvote people who mention downvoting (like the two I call out in the above comment) and people who downvote every comment in a thread just because their own comment was downvoted (like bigtyme who i’ve noticed a bunch of times downvoting entire threads just because someone downvoted him).

Neither of those things are conducive to a social web with a small population.

What the fuck is going on lately? Tucker Carlson is calling out republicans. Conservatives are protesting AI. Cats are marrying dogs! The world has gone weird.

Are we still sure that LHC didn’t break something when they found the higgs boson? Like sure sure?

Probably an alternate universe PADD like Boimler’s.

Stop downvoting everyone in the thread just because you got downvoted. Votes are public and your behavior is childish. This isn’t the first time i’ve noticed you doing this.

Edit: [email protected] & [email protected] also think it’s funny to downvote people calling out anti social behavior. I seriously don’t understand some people’s logic downvoting for no reason on a site where votes are public.

Not to mention a black woman as communications officer on the bridge.

Uhura doesn’t show up until The Corbomite Maneuver in this shot:

So obviously it became woke in the 3rd episode of The Original Series. /s

I liked all of them (mainly because i like most movies and tv shows, i’m a simple man) but I also respect other people opinions.

I just don’t understand a significant minority of people’s opinion that they should yuck someone else’s yum. How hard is it for people to just be nice? Kindness is free after all.

The Mint one likewise pushes flatpaks.

Most packages in Mint you can download from the system repo. You don’t have to use flatpacks. I have my LMDE set to show only system packages since i’m not a fan of flatpacks.

Iain M. Bank’s Culture series also has people shifting between sexes. It’s just a thought process and time for them. One of the books the main character has switched a few times but is currently a male and one of his friends is transitioning.

I don’t think the Borg Queen is a singular entity. As distributed as the borg are it makes more sense that they have a backup queen body and mind. So if she gets deleted by some temporal accords violating Janeway the rest of the borg can just boot up her new body and download Tertiary Alice Krige of Unimatrix 01.

Almost like healthcare should be universal or something.

Not in 11 that i’ve seen but drivers used to be ridiculous on windows. The funny thing is it was even worse on linux for a hot minute. I remember borking my nic multiple times on slackware 3 and having to hoof it to my friend’s house to download a driver way back in olden times. I learned a fuckload about linux and networking during those years breaking things.

You don’t compile everything from code yourself? Amateur. /s

The holy photon torpedo?

I respectfully disagree.

At papa johns in colombia they have nutella rolls. They’re basically garlic knots but instead of garlic they use nutella. They’re amazing.

Alyssa’s thinking about how maybe Starfleet should review their on duty drug use policies.

Baba is the word for father in a bunch of languages.

As one of the first utterances many babies are able to say, baba (like mama, papa, and dada) has come to be used in many languages as a term for various family members:

father: Albanian, Arabic, Western Armenian, Chinese, Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi, Bengali, Greek, Marathi, Marshallese, Mingrelian, Nepali, Persian, Swahili, Turkish, Yoruba, Shona, Zulu
grandmother: many Slavic languages (such as Bulgarian, Czech, Russian, Serbo-Croatian and Polish; a doublet of bubbe), Romanian, Yiddish, Japanese
grandfather: Azerbaijani, Zulu (father, grandfather)
baby: Afrikaans, Sinhala, Hungarian

You can hear the zulu one in the opening lines of The Lion King song Circle of Life.

"Nants ingonyama bagithi baba." literally means "hear comes the lion, father"

Babies first sounds are usually a consonant followed by a vowel. So ma, pa, ga, gu, ba. A few months later they start duplicating the sounds while testing out their speaking abilities so you get mama, papa, gaga, googoo, baba. Which are common first words for lots of baby things. Like baba for my sister was her bottle. Every baby might not say every variation while they’re learning and they will obviously have favorite words but generally that’s why we consider baby speech like that. Maybe english just happens to choose the “g” for the leading consonant because we have a lot of hard g words in english and that’s what babies pick up on first.

Reminds me of the Cockney bible.
