After seeing how some autistic friends interact with Gemini and ChatGPT, something clicked. These tools made them able to be more empathetic at work, and one even managed to be promoted thanks to his “ability to show a fast growth in the office” by helping him navigate through office politics. The bot is like a personal coach over their shoulders all the time, explaing what people really meant with the messages they receive, and helping them to soften the blow of their data driven, rutheless factual observations and arguments, adjusting their responses into something more palatable to their bosses. One of my friends said he tells everything that happened at the work after he clocks off, and asks for insights, saying that it helped him to understand how to act in that ambient and reducing the anxiety of having to guess what the correct behaviour should be.

The anti-AI sentiment here is wild. I use AI daily, it’s an incredible power up to be able to from idea to execution in hours or days instead of weeks. New code, new drugs, solving long-unsolved math and physics problems, etc. It’s hard to not see it as a net benefit for humanity,

Using autistic people as a means to defend AI is a wild take.

Also, I feel this take is generally popular in real life and in most online spaces. Most people I have met in real life have the take of, “IT’S INEVITABLE SO BETTER GET ON IT!”

It’s an absolute shamelessly bullshit take. This shit needs to be removed.

Your opinion is certainly unpopular, so I upvoted.

But I strongly suspect that the strength of your conviction is directly proportional to how far away you live from data centers.

No. Some unpopular opinnns are such bullshit that they deserve to be downvoted into oblivion. Fuck AI and all its uses.

This is like someone upset that their house is on fire and someone telling them, yeah, but fire is cleansing.

AI is destroy human culture every fucking day. As someone on the spectrum, I couldn’t give a shit about how it’s helping a feel people communicate.

You’re fighting against gravity. Unless the mods sticky an all-caps billboard in every post, it’ll never happen. RTFM obviously isn’t working.

I guess, if loneliness and lack of human experience/maturity is like heroin, ChatGPT is like methadone? So I’m glad overall that these lost souls, unprepared for life, have found some solace in the machine but idk, seems like something an actual functioning society would take care of, the whole raising people to be people kind of thing, and this is a bandaid and an analgesic that will only help compound the problems in the long run.
