Fascists, like many other groups (especially criminal gangs) require a moment where the acolyte breaks the law visibly, so that they are bound to the group forever. Having the military do criminal things means the military has to fear what a lawful administration would do to them.

A lawful administration that comes in has two major options: prosecute everyone involved and risk it all, or prosecute only the top 10% and let the rest get off, like they did in Nurenberg. Biden chose option #3: prosecute the low-level offenders (Jan 6) and let the top people get off.

That extraordinary act of cowardice is what got us to the point where we are.

The irony is that he was the President that followed an incredibly accomplished, intelligent, and thoughtful man. I disagreed with Obama on a lot, from policy to style, but there was no doubt that he had great charisma and intelligence. To be followed by that shit show TWICE must hurt.

I would love to believe that’s not true, but it was very suspicious how Republicans have been overperforming polls mostly in states where they control the election machinery.

You are not wrong. Methinks a lot of Europe’s lack of digital infrastructure is related to the mountains of red tape every person and company in the EU has to face. It’s really discouraging.

Fully with you there. A lot of people on the left are rapping on Schumer and Jeffries for being too moderate, and rightfully so. But I think there is a part of their extreme caution (or fecklessness) that comes from having seen more leftist candidates go down in flames in the past.

Having people like Mamdani, AOC, and others win elections decisively makes a huge difference. They are not perfect, but they move the needle in the right (left) direction.

Well, duh, he has to swear on a book that means something to him, preferably a (to him) holy book. How weird would it be if he swore on a Christian bible. not being Christian himself?

The book is not there for our cultural values. It’s there to ensure the person swears an oath on something meaningful to them. We just forgot about that because we are used to all sorts of public figures swearing oaths that mean nothing to them.

I tried Chick-fil-A once, because a friend had done a Trump-style dinner party. It was the blandest, more boring thing I have ever eaten. Did I just get a bad batch, or is the blandness the point?

Considering that the relevant federal authorities already declared what they consider the facts to be before having looked at the first piece of evidence, I would think that the federal investigation is 99.6% likely to be unfair.

I am terribly sorry for what happened to Renee Good. I have watched the videos over and over and I really don’t understand how anyone could come to a conclusion different than “power tripping ICE agent murders woman in cold blood because he felt slighted by her declaring she was ignoring his order.”

That said, the narrative of fear the administration is pushing requires someone armed and dangerous. Renee Good died unarmed, but she is dismantling a whole story line in her innocence. They tried to portray her as a monster, because the reality is they are.

I remember seeing a report that accused her of using her “enormous SUV” to attack people. She drove a Honda Pilot. It’s really hard to find a car smaller than that in America, these days.
