  • Well, that’s why I look at it solely from a literary perspective. The whole idea of creating mankind, while knowing the whole future of everyone who will ever exist, and then punishing humanity because one of the very first people created failed to obey his rules, something God knew they would do, is simply absurd. But as a story it’s interesting.

The whole premise of the God in the Bible makes little sense. To quote Epicurus:

“Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent.

Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent.

Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil?

Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?”

Omnipotence, Omniscience, Benevolence. Choose any two.

  • Mafia tactics. In my country, I’d wonder if there wasn’t a case to be made against that

There is a solid case to be made for it, actually. What is lacking is a functioning justice system. The Dept. of Justice and the whole Executive branch of the American government has been corrupted. Laws are no longer being enforced against Trump’s allies and are being twisted to attack his perceived enemies. Even when the judicial branch rules against Trump and his allies, the rulings are ignored.

The President of the Heritage Foundation, Kevin Roberts said:

“And so I come full circle on this response and just want to encourage you with some substance that we are in the process of the second American Revolution, which will remain bloodless if the left allows it to be.”

Trump has been following Project 2025, the Heritage foundation’s plan. This really is the second American revolution and we have only two options. We can roll over and let Trump and his allies do whatever they want and have their “bloodless” revolution, or we can resist.

  • The idea is that he could have, but it was through his suffering that mankind would be saved. I’m not a believer but from a literary perspective, the story is that if he saved himself, all humanity would suffer. His human nature wanted to survive and avoid suffering but to do so would go against God’s will and humanity would not be absolved of sin. He overcame his human nature to embrace the will of God. Hence his prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will”

By the way, the nails actually go through the wrists in crucifixion, between the bones (radius and ulna). If you put the nails through the palms like they so often show, the weight of the body would just make them rip through the meat of the hands between the fingers.

  • Everyone wants to run everything like a business these days. They want to save on payroll so rather than paying actual police to do the paperwork, they want to use Copilot or whatever to do the paperwork for them. Of course, because AI models are so crappy and error prone, they need to spend the same amount of money on payroll to verify the accuracy of the AI output. But they don’t do that. They just run with whatever the AI output is and figure it’ll be close enough to accurate. After all, big tech keeps telling everyone that AI is wonderful and can do anything. That is far from the truth though.

A lawyer in California last year got in trouble for using ChatGPT to generate briefs for a trial. He wound up filing those briefs with the court even though they 21 of the 23 quotes from previous trials were complete fabrications. In another incident, a police department in Utah used an AI to generate a report from a traffic stop. That report claimed that an officer shape-shifted into a frog during the incident.

There are endless reports of AI making shit up and demonstrating how error prone those tools are. Yet, people who should know better keep trusting AI to do these important jobs, just to save money on payroll, when AI is clearly far from ready for prime-time.

  • Pretty sure that negotiating with a foreign power as you describe would get you thrown in jail.

    18 U.S. Code § 953 - Private correspondence with foreign governments

Any citizen of the United States, wherever he may be, who, without authority of the United States, directly or indirectly commences or carries on any correspondence or intercourse with any foreign government or any officer or agent thereof, with intent to influence the measures or conduct of any foreign government or of any officer or agent thereof, in relation to any disputes or controversies with the United States, or to defeat the measures of the United States, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than three years, or both.

I do agree, however, that blue cities and states need to be forming alliances to resist the fascists in D.C.

  • “We will be investigating what appears to be a hit-and-run incident by what we believe to be a federal employee , as we would any other hit-and-run,” he said. “We will investigate what appears to be assault two by an unknown individual with pepper spray being used on attendees of the vigil last night, as we would any other unlawful use of pepper spray in a public space here in Hartford.”

So they’re not sure if was an ICE vehicle or not… oh, wait.

An spokesperson for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement said that the group of protesters, which they called “a mob of radical agitators,” attempted to obstruct federal law enforcement officers and broke a vehicle window.

“Make no mistake – obstructing federal law enforcement officers during the performance of their duties is not only dangerous but also illegal,” the spokesperson said.

No need for belief, mayor, when ICE has admitted that it was their employees and vehicle involved in the crime. Now demand that the spokesman provide the identity of the driver as well as the identity of the one who deployed the pepper spray. If they fail to cooperate, demand that they provide the name of their boss and anyone else who would know. Then you need to start charging these ICE spokespeople and bosses their bosses with obstruction of justice.
