The Left was always pro democracy, and the Right pro monarchy.
Marx and Engels came to communism through the rise of European democracy.
Lenin came to power via coup and secret police arresting and murdering the Socialist Revolutionaries.
Tankies worship Lenin and his “vanguard parties” which are just dictatorships, a new Nobility. Leaving the workers just as oppressed as before.
Actual communism is the workers in control of the factories and economy, and the only way to manage that is via a functional democracy. Something that capitalists and fake communists fight against tooth and nail.
Not to mention the assistance of Germany in helping him return to Russia.

There’s a reason it’s usually explained using multiple dimensions, left/right ideals and then authoritarian/libertarian (as in liberty, not the contemporary nonsense associated)
And separation of social and economic beliefs is common too.
But practically speaking, the authoritarian scale is the single most predictive belief measurement. All those authoritarian extremists share many more real beliefs with each other than with other non-authoritarian types, just with different flavors. It’s where the horseshoe theory come from.
