The US has been the guarantor of many nations’ security for decades. If they secede from the world, in the insecurity they leave behind, Russia and its friends can hoover up whichever weak states they want.
That is assuming that no-one else (i.e. the EU) steps up and supports those nations which Russia and China have their eyes on.

Honestly not much different from WW2. The world was on its own until Pearl harbor.
You’re forgetting something important that happened in summer of 1941, plus the background level of militarisation among non American countries
