I sometimes wonder how Democrats got stuck with the “ass” (nickname for a donkey in some parts) as their logo, as the Republicans have clearly done more to earn it (although I’ll grant the Dems aren’t all that far behind).
If we recall correctly it was an attack by Andrew Jackson’s opponents. He was called a jackass and decided to own it, thus the democrats got that as their logo.
apparently Andrew Jackson was nicknamed Jackass, and ended up using the symbol spitefully on his campaign materials, and then cartoonists started using it as a shorthand for his party
