“Supporters of ‘Medicare for All’ now outnumber opponents by nearly 2-to-1,” according to a new survey of U.S. adults from the Axios-Ipsos American Health Index. “Two-thirds of all survey respondents — and half of Republicans — said the federal government should be willing to spend more tax dollars to lower health care costs for Americans.”
I’d love to have universal healthcare. But the number one hurdle for Medicare for all is the market cap on health insurance companies. 3/4 of a trillion dollars would vanish overnight. It’s important to remember that almost all 401k accounts are invested in healthcare. The economic impact would devastate everyone. We need to solve that issue first.
I’d love to have retirement accounts be completely untethered from the stock market. Mixing the two was a huge mistake which basically turned us into a corporatocracy. There are of course people on the boards running those corps - the 1% richest among us. Terrible mistake.
The Bush Administration in their 2nd term tried to privatize social security, and, and borrow some 12 trillion or something, and force everyone to throw it into the pot, into the market, through managers, before the 2008 crash.
They knew what they were doing. They were trying to rob all the senior citizens to let the stockholders cash out on a high note.
It’s worse that that though because how the privatization was set up, only getting 8 percent or something of gains but eating all losses. What a joke, it’s part of the reason Obama and dems got a landslide in 2008.
Health insurance companies don’t have to disappear overnight they can just be seized under eminent domain for fair market value of their land and office supplies.
Correct. They will still be needed. They’ll just be nonprofit government agencies.
