Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•If you're going to accept art this horny please pay someone
9·9 days agoIf by “treating you right” you mean imprisoning you for speaking out against the referendum that only further strengthens the “President’s” power (like unilaterally dissolving the parliament and then being allowed to create laws at will, only being allowed to be replaced when sentenced of treason [but the President assigns the president of the constitutional court lol] and so on), then yes.

Star Wars Memes@lemmy.world•Genocide me once, shame on you..English
3·11 days agoI don’t think that’s a genocide though.
Mostly because in the Star Wars universe you can’t really wipe out either the Jedi or the Sith. Both try to wipe the other out but haven’t succeedes whatsoever because they are extremely basic religious/philosophical positions: “The force exists to do ‘good’ (whatever ‘good’ is)” vs. “The force exists to make me strong”. Jedi are Jedi and Sith are Sith only because of those values plus some beaurocracy.
Compare that to human religions where they first construct an extremely elaborate setting with a shitton of incorporated fanfiction to argue why they and only they are right and all others are wrong. That’s so much more complex, you’d have to stop believing in a billion different things if you were to switch religions.
Tl;dr: It’s not genocide if I were to kill all philosophy students at my university because in my point of view their views are evil.

Games@lemmy.world•Video game PEGI age-ratings are changing in Europe from June. Four new categories added to tackle elements of addictive design, unmonitored online communication and loot boxesEnglish
3·12 days agoThe rating system isn’t meant to be taken literally though. It’s expected that parents make an informed choice based on the maturity of their child. The ratings are recommendations and as far as I know only actually enforced by stores/sellers and cinemas.

Technology@lemmy.world•Parents opt kids out of school laptops, ask for pen-and-paperEnglish
2·1 month agoTo be fair, school lunches aren’t free in Germany.
Technically they could be considered free if you factor in monthly child benefits (currently at 259€ per child) or parents further qualify for social assistance.
Please provide an example that fits in the Red/Blue overlap.
That liquid is called public swimming pool water you accidentally swallow.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•15 degrees fahrenheit feels almost the same as 5 degrees. However 35 degrees feels WAY colder than 45 degrees.
1·1 month agoAh, that makes a bit more sense.
Maximum body temperature should be pretty obvious - at least with one or two degrees (Celsius) of wiggle room.
Though, with minimum body temperature, do you mean minimum while conscious or minimum survivable? Because there have been cases where people were successfully resuscitated after being submerged in freezing water for a very long time:
An 8-year-old boy fell through pond ice and was submerged for ≥147 minutes. Nadir peripheral body temperature was 7 °C (45 °F). After rewarming with extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, prolonged hospitalization, and neurorehabilitation, the child recovered.
At 6-month follow-up, he was giving short commands, standing without support, riding a tricycle, eating soft foods, and relearning simple tasks.

21·1 month agoHumans are mostly water though.
And your scale makes even less sense because you are ignoring time and air moisture (for the maximum temperature). You would probably die very quickly in a 120°C hot sauna if it had 100% moisture.
Same with the cold: I’d not survive much longer than a minute in -50°C without clothes but with adequate protection several hours seems possible.

Technology@lemmy.world•Epstein details scrubbed from Mandelson’s Wikipedia page by shady paid editor— As the then-ambassador came under fire, an anonymous user tried to downplay his history of support for Jeffrey EpsteinEnglish
4·1 month agoWikipedia isn’t important because of its data. Rather because of the fact it is continuously updated, extended, and fixed at a gigantic scale.
If Wikipedia ever dies, its information will lose relevance by the day. After a decade or two without a similar-scale replacement, will anyone even care?
The US is already socialist though.
You see, the billionaires are in full control of the government. And since the billionaires stand for the workers, the workers are in direct control of the means of production. The dictatorship of the proletariat has been achieved, all hail to comrade Trump!

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•2000 years ago the Romans had it figured out that letting people have weapons in cities was a bad idea.
116·2 months agoOh no, the workers have weapons! Anyways…
Marx died shortly after front-loaded muskets were replaced by the earliest rifles. You know, guns so terrible, a worker and trained soldier were somewhat matched.
From what I’ve heard, small arms were plenty available to civilians during the siege of Sarajevo. Yet they were absolutely worthless because it turns out modern soldiers are several orders of magnitude better equipped and deadly.
I’d purchase one if it 100% reliably cleaned both me and itself after use, without any (further) user interaction.
