I would have set a turkey on their ottoman, personally.

Strong words from someone who’s not really here.
Hey, thanks for extending this thread with me. It was fun.

Also, have you seen the movie Home? One could very easily argue about whether it’s a good movie, but there’s a scene in it where a hostile alien ship flies into Saturn’s ring and has a very visually impressive impact.
Again, not making any comment on the quality of the movie in general … That scene struck me as so cool that a screenshot of it has been my wallpaper on my work computer for nine years.
edit: I don’t run a public webserver anymore, but at the time I did and was unaware of things like nextcloud and copy party, so I had to save the screenshot to my webserver to get it to my work computer to use as the background.

2·2 days agoIt can take a bit of motivation to get started, but reading books can be so fun and worthwhile (with the right books for you). I read a lot of books until I had a kid, then I didn’t have the time or energy to keep it up. Just recently I suffered a back injury that keeps me in bed a lot of the time, which forced downtime on me, and so I started reading again.
I wouldn’t recommend the back injury, but I’ve so much enjoyed embracing books once more. Like you, I’m 38 and felt like my literacy was declining. Now I feel like a lot of it’s coming back! If you can, you should try to resume reading.

This was also the content of a Dilbert strip.
For what it’s worth, this also works well if you want to lie to yourself about how much weight you’ve gained.
That’s probably not the healthiest approach, though.
As an alternative, I once was wearing a no name brand one of these at work and it simply broke. I spent the rest of the day with an extension cord tied around my waist. It was also adjustable and, as a bonus, all of my customers of the day got a kick out of it.
I think this is the kind of heart monitor you get if you have heart concerns. For example, a few months ago I had an experience that might have been a heart attack. When I told my doctor, they recommended wearing a heart monitor for two weeks to identify any problems.
I wasn’t instructed to write down any details. Instead, the monitor came with a phone with a locked down app. If I experienced symptoms, I would press a button on the monitor attached to my chest, then choose the symptoms on the app (high HR, chest pressure, lightheadedness, nausea, etc.) There was a section for notes, but it was optional.
I can see an argument being made for it being invasive, but it’s not mandatory and, at least from my experience, you don’t have to provide any information you don’t want to (though you probably should for a proper diagnosis).
I haven’t yet had my follow-up appointment, but I very much doubt the cardiologist has any interest in anything that is not directly relevant to your evaluation.
Fair enough, just don’t forget to tie an onion to your belt.
Happy to be of service, but I feel like calling Grandpa Simpson (or Abe if you prefer) “the old Simpsons man” is doing him a disservice.
6-7 is a thing kids say these days, apparently. Like 69, 420, etc.; except so far as I’ve seen 6-7 is the height of a popular basketball player, a reference to a rap song, or possibly both.
I’m not going to attack it because I’ve made plenty of dumb references, but I don’t know enough to justify this one. My kid is too young to say this and I have no other connection to modern youth culture.
I’m not sure how the numbers connect to the image.
Well this was just depressing.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How do I prevent someone breaking and entering a house?
6·5 days agoI had my windows replaced … Last year, I think? That detail doesn’t really matter.
I always knew that normal windows negate any attempt at security, but it was still unnerving to visually confirm that they are easily removed, fragile barriers filling what are just holes in my wall.
My life so far with my wife is for sure something I would describe as winning.
I’ve a '79 Corvette. The first night I met my wife, I took her for a ride in it to the local Waffle House.
I guess it worked; she married me eight years later.
edit: I messed up my math. It was ten years later. Don’t tell her I said this, okay, guys?

1·8 days agoMy work gave me a Mac with this. I absolutely hated it - constantly triggering random things I didn’t want or need and apparently something about the wiring caused the physical keyboard to fail prematurely.
Fortunately we’ve moved on from those dark days. I still have to use a Mac, but at least there’s no touch bar.

Honestly, that whole saga happened very shortly after I started using Reddit. I don’t have much of an opinion, I just know a bit of the lore.
It does indeed sound like he knew quite a bit about birds.
