All of the responses to this story seem to emphasize the legality of the court order, but that highlights the risk of the modern era: governments acting unethically, immorally, and leveraging the law to forward those goal. And if business will always capitulate, then ultimately they are an extension of that state authority - not a servant of the customer.
In the end, privacy becomes a brand, but not a reality.

Correct answer. It creates extremely perverse incentives in society to allow people to bet on large scale harm.

Fire the execs and replace them with an LLM.
There’s no difference between the average executive and an LLM. Fire them all and save on exec salaries. Maybe they’ll be less excited by AI now.

I like Fedora for my desktop. Close enough to upstream to get the latest features, but not so bleeding edge that it’s unstable.

Completely changed rock music

I moved in 2025. Moved to the Netherlands. No downsides besides having to file (but not pay) US taxes, and how FATCA discourages European banks from taking US citizen customers.

It has nothing to do with AI.
They bet big on crypto and it hasn’t paid off for years. They continued hiring. Their stock has been flat or lowering for the past five years. They continued hiring.

In around 2011 or 2012, I worked as an MSP engineer and one of the clients was a large mega church. The pastor used software that basically wrote his sermons for him - it would pick the verses that matched the themes he wanted to cover, referenced past sermons to make sure it’s not pulling the same quotes over and over, and pulled in common interpretations preprogrammed into its library.
I can’t imagine how worse it has become. No soul left in the grift.

Give them a week. They’ll fall in line.

So Russia gets 2 seats at the table?

My kid is 11 and gets to bike to school, or walk to music lessons or the store whenever. It’s pretty cool

🙋♂️ I left in 2025. It’s great! Walkable and bikeable cities, affordable groceries, my health insurance actually pays for stuff, there’s public transit, the food is safer, and not absolutely every I do funnels into only 12 companies.
I moved my family. When my kid needs higher education, it won’t cost more than our home. I can send him out in the streets without worrying he’ll be hit by a truck going 80. Active shooter or intruder drills aren’t a phenomenon in his school.
I only wish we could have done it sooner.

Finance bro uses party drugs. Not exactly news.

He’ll announce something superficially positive and they’ll come back to him. The American “independent” voter is a gullible fool - they always have been.

So now we have to assume that anything being blogged about on Substack means that the blogger has a stake in whatever topic they’re blogging about.

I got tickets to the Rush concert in Amsterdam next year. I’m so psyched. I’m bringing my 11 year old son.
