That’s rather my point! What are we to replace a free market with? Everyone screams SOCIALISM, but no one seems to agree on what that actually means.

Shall we do the literal, textbook definition? State ownership of the means of production? That’s been a complete failure.

What we need is a capitalist economic system, reigned in by:

    • Unions, to protect the workers
    • Breaking and disallowing monopolies, so they never get so large as to control the government
    • Democratic governments who protect us, voted in by an educated electorate

But I repeat myself. I guess the Nordic countries, and most of Europe, who act exactly as I outlined, are failures.

    Ready to bring the hate?

Rittenhouse’s case was legitimate self-defense. No one has to believe me, the videos the jury saw are available.

“He shouldn’t have been there!”, is not a legal defense. Unless you want to posit, “She shouldn’t have been there!” in this week’s case. “He was there to start shit!”, is mostly not a defense, but we’re getting in the legal weeds here. Intention is notoriously hard to prove.

Whoever bought the gun for him, I think it was legal in that state?, should likely be in prison. Can’t remember the details. Rittenhouse himself should have caught prison time for bringing the weapon across state lines. Far as I can discern, that was the only point at which he broke the law and it was a felony. No idea why he didn’t go down for that. Anyone?

If I see that kid walking down my street, I might very well…, leave that your imagination. Let’s say I would view him as a legitimate threat, especially given his actions after the trial. He’s still looking for a fight, though I doubt he has the guts to draw blood again.

For all the bitching about capitalism, which basically every country on Earth uses for an economic system, we’re missing 3 key things.

    • We can have unions under capitalism.
    • We can break, or prevent, monopolies under capitalism.
    • Our governments can protect us under capitalism.

Everything works fucking great with those 3 ingredients. Imagine that.

  • ICE isn’t anywhere near us yet. I am never unarmed, at home or in public. I will certainly die if they come for me, but masked men at my door or approaching my brown wife are going to be attacked with everything I got. And I am scared shitless.

Easy for me to say, I’ve lived a fairly wild and interesting life, no longer a young man with the world ahead of me. ICE has made it crystal clear, they are going to kill us with impunity. Though I am scared to die yet willing to fight, I have decided I will not volunteer for it.

And for everyone saying, “Where my 2A boys at?” Right here. (Sorta. I’m a big time gun nut that is ambivalent about the 2A.) What exactly am I to do? If I’m going to throw my life away, it better fucking count. I’ve drawn the line on defending my wife, but am I to actively hunt fascists in other states?

What would you have me do? I could arm my entire block, though everyone already has some sort of guns, even the little old black lady across the street. Then what? My knowledge of insurgency is limited to books and movies. ?

Squint real hard and take the beginning of Genesis as a tale of solar/planetary formation followed by evolution, closest origin myth I know of.

“Let there be light.” Solar ignition. Let’s go!

They got the order of life mixed here and there, but at least it started in the sea. Adam and Eve’s curse is by far the most interesting bit.

They eat from the Tree of Knowledge. Let’s say they were apes before that event and look at the curses laid down.

    • Now we know good from evil. Bit hard to argue animals are terribly moral, having a concept of good and evil. Other mammals are close, especially emotionally, but nothing like humans.

    • Now our heads are swole with brains, painful childbirth follows. Don’t know of any mammals that have such painful, risky births.

    • We’re cursed to labor all our days to bring food forth from the ground, when before we were swinging from trees, eating fruit and the occasional howler monkey baby. The invention of agriculture anyone?

    • Cast out of the Garden, we can never get any of the above back.

I find it fascinating how many factual points they hit without resorting to, “Big god spooged on mountains and giants came forth and so on and so on.” (Yes, I’m aware of how nuts Genesis gets down the road. I’ve read it a time or two.)

If you really want to confound Christians, point out there’s a second creation myth 3 or 4 pages later, which disagrees with the first.
