Investing 1.8 bn just before China invades… Ok then.
Ah ok.
That docker-dirs.sh script is trying to set the right permissions onto these directories:
“pgdata”, “media”, “logs”, “tmp”.
The owner of those directories needs to be the same user as the one running docker.
Nowhere in https://codeberg.org/rimu/pyfedi/src/branch/main/INSTALL-docker.md does the word chmod appear.
When you say ‘ran the script in it’, what do you mean?

That got way darker than expected. Wow!

No need for smoke machines back then!

Nvidia stock price has been flat since September. Almost 6 months. He’s feeling the pressure.
Planka is like Trello was 5 years ago, fyi. Foss and self-hostable.

Yep, China is quite a hard place to be a tourist.
After failing to get a train ticket we had a 12 hour bus ride once, going to Beijing. The toilet filled the whole bus with stench, only masked a little by the cigarette smoke from the chain-smokers. No opening windows. No reclining seat. Karaoke videos at full volume. Dark outside so nothing to look at yet absolutely no chance of sleep. In the end we were dropped off beside the highway at 5 AM, somewhere in the city.
Worst bus ride of my life. Purgatory.

Yes, you’re right.

Asia rules, that was a time that I always look back on fondly! Crazy stuff happening everywhere you look. Great food, great people, beaches, snorkeling, jungles, mountains. Too hot though.
Pretty much whatever path we choose there’s going to be some kind of regret. Humans are crappy like that :)

Close, but she came with me on the trip. My job waited for my return and lasted about a year-ish after we got back.

The die was cast about 4 months into the trip.
My biggest regret in life is hanging on for another 18+ months to try and work it out.

I’ve done it, more or less - from Bangkok to Barcelona. Some busses when the trains didn’t work out. Occasional boats. One flight (Moscow to Helsinki) for visa reasons.
No one needs that much trains. The worst bit was from Ulaanbaatar to Moscow, 5 straight days and nights of birch & pine trees, eating borsht on an empty train (most people go the other direction). Not doing that again.
8 months of travel.
Things were never the same after that. Didn’t feel at home in my own country anymore, got divorced, was made redundant from my job and couldn’t afford the rent. Wandered around Asia for 5 years, aimlessly. Then covid happened and international travel was out so traveled around locally in a house bus for 3 years.
So yeah. Don’t do that trip unless you’re prepared to go well off the rails. Ho ho.

The person who is using that character found a way around that somehow! So the next release doesn’t try to restrict it anymore.

Yes that is the crucial difference. Without followers determining your reach, every post earns it’s upvotes on an equal footing with the others, regardless of author.
It’s a much better system.
Follower-based networks like Mastodon and Twitter inevitably end up with a handful of people dominating the space because their posts get boosted which gets them more followers which gets them more boosts etc in a spiraling way. This attracts narcissists and drama queens.
