What if I end up being one of the tiny events that makes the change that starts this utopia?

What if you end up being obe of tge tint events that prevents that utopia happening, and only by bringing you forward through time can that be prevented? Maybe they don’t even realise that it is only the act of brining you forward in time that allows for the future to unfold as it has for them, so they willingly send you back, destroying their timeline in the process, or at least divering the flow of time away from it.

They’re right though, money can’t buy happiness, but it certainly can remove a lot of the things that impede it.

I don’t think I’ve upvoted any of their posts, but there’s been some reasonable discussions under some of them. Would you be happier if they’d found the image somewhere else? I mean, all original content would be nice, but realistically most of it is going to come from somewhere else. I think what’s bothering me is that I only see you doing this under this one user, when there are multiple other users who also habitually repost, and it seems to have become something of a monomania. My apologies if I’ve missed some more widespread comments.

I won’t block you because, apart from this, I generally don’t mind your posts, and I remember that you used to post more positively and even humourously. I hope that we see more of that, the fediverse needs more positivity. Besides, your username makes me laugh every time I see it.

Hugo can handle images through its asset pipelines, so you should be able to just store them with your markdown. I agree it’s a little more friction than a blogging pkatform, but it does mean that you can just write your posts in your editor of choice and publish them with just a command, or if you’re feeling fancy, set up git to trigger publishing when you push.

Depending on exactly what features you actually need in term of things like commenting, you might want to look into a static site generator. Something like hugo woud probably do what you need in terms of translating the markdown into a blog. It has the advantage that you can them host the pages on a normal web server, rather than running a blogging platform, giving you a much lighter weight server footprint, and a much smaller attack surface too.

Honestly, at this point, I’m not sure what you hope to achieve by these responses. Their account is marked as a bot, and for anyone who doesn’t want to see the reposts, the block button is just a click away. I, and I’m sure many others, don’t habitually go to reddit, so this is “new” content to us.

Obviously I’d much prefer if they added even a modicum of original thought to their posts, but the constant campaign of posting screen shots is equally wearing. I’ve seen your argument elsewhere that they’re ‘monopolising’ communities, but even if that were a meaningful metric, this isn’t the way to deal with it. Downvote them, certainly, but more people posting more content is the natural antidote. It doesn’t really matter that someone is reposting from elsewhere when there’s other content appearing too, and if there isn’t that other new content, even reposted content helps drive engagement in the community. Ultimately, if the mods of the community don’t want them posting, they can just block them from doing so, so it may be worth contacting them to register your dislike of this sort of content.

That’s a perky pair! It’s good to see them out in the wild like that.

In the UK the police are firmly against being generally armed, as they understand that would raise the stakes in every confrontation, and we don’t have many guns in circulation at present. They’re no angels, but they’ve got the right idea on this at least, and they do have armed units they can call in when the situation absolutely demands it.

The situation in the US is very different though, as you say. Once you have that many guns in circulation, and a widespread mentality that accepts or even demands that, getting back to something sane is going to be a herculean task over multiple generations.

I must take exception to your description of a jumper being a shirt. A jumper does not open at the front, and so cannot possibly be compared to a shirt, whose defining feature is the opening, typically finished with a placket on each side, unless it’s a tee-shirt, but it’s too chilly to wear those here, so we don’t talk about them. The garment you are referring to is, of course, a cardigan. Both the jumper and the cardigan do share the trait of being a made of a heavier material, or knitted, often by your Granny, out of heavy wool.

I’ll have you know that the u in colour is very important. It nake the other o sound more like a u. Furthermore, check is a perfectly good word, but you cant pay with it. For that you need a cheque, and you can’t pay with those in most places now either. You car would have a bonnet and a boot, but a lorry would only have the former. Decending in a lift is no more unexpected than doing so in an elevator, and it significantly fewer letters too.

I’ve found Hetzner to be reasonable for VPSs and even bare metal servers, especially if you keep an eye on their auctions.

Whether you’re hosting it all at home, all on a remote server, or some combination of the two, it’s worth taking the time to first learn some form of automation tooling, so that your setup is reproducible and you know exactly how everything is set up. From the first time you have to rebuild everything due to a hardware failure trashing your server, or a careless rm -rf, you’ll be glad of it.

Ansible is a good place to start as it’s pretty straighforward to get going, and your playbook can grow with your requirements. If you’re using a lot of containers, make sure you understand docker, and maybe consider Kubenetes, especially if you want to split your workload across servers.

I find that a dedicated RSS reader is a much better experience, as, especially when you’ve got a lot if feeds, organising them and keeping track of what you’ve read becomes quite important. If you take your eye off of a chat based system, you’re going to have so many unread messages it’ll be hard to keep up.
