51·2 days agoI am Java developer, and I don’t understand how exactly JVM works, for example. I’m not sure, how much my app will consume memory and CPU resources. I don’t know when garbage collector will do their work. I even don’t know what JIT and AOT compilation. And this doesn’t prevent me from doing good, effective and useful things. May be they are not the best. Maybe writing them on C or assembler will be more optimized and effective. But anyway, I am OK with that and trying to accept vibe coding same way, as I accept myself and my job.
If this is not sarcasm, or in case somebody believes you - no, it’s not. These are 4 different actress out of 6 pics.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's one highly extolled piece of media that you absolutely cannot stand in any way shape or form.
2·2 months agoAs I explained - it feeled fresh. I can’t explain why, but I can’t put it down while reading.
I don’t try to convince people, who read this book, that it’s great. I address people who haven’t - you should give it a chance.

41·2 months agoThe only answer I can’t understand. A great novel. I Chinese context was very fresh and interesting for me. Sometimes it seems amature, like fan fiction, like author is not a professional writer. But it makes it even better.

182·2 months agoI am trying to watch “The Wire” (on ep. 10) because it is one the highest rated show on imdb, but it doesn’t click in me. It is high quality product. Acting, music, camera work are all good. But is just boring for me, and I force myself to do it.
Same was with The Sopranos btw.
P. S. Ricky Gervais is funniest comedian for me. I watched his Life’s Too Short, After Life and I like it a lot. For me it’s very funny and bravely. Never watched British The office, may be shouldn’t, thanks.

But I’m OK with the topic.

I create an work profile in my android phone with Insular app from f-Droid (but there is alternatives from Google play too). And connect tailscale to home server there and put all necessary app here too. Basic profile has commercial VPN with split tunneling per app.
But I check threads and there are better alternatives.
I’m happy for your marriage

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Is *arr stack a real Netflix replacement?English
1·5 months agoYes, I mean to watch before it downloaded completely to my server via torrents. I would be happy, if qbittorent can enable “download in sequential order” enabled by default.

1·5 months agoYeah, that’s enough for me in 90% times. But does seerr provide such feature? Because I don’t see trailers in last two videos about *arr stack I watched on YouTube.

3·5 months agoYeah, that’s a very good point! I use it sometimes manually on qbittorent. Can it be done automatically for all downloads on qbittorent?

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What subscription based services are actually worth the money?
5·6 months agoThe worst advice IMHO. You can’t cancel that types of subscription anytime, otherwise you lost your data. will you pay for it for the rest of your life? Will your grandchildren pay for it to keep granny’s photos?
I agree! Truck size are a reason lanes are so wide that enormous big vehicles like SUV are popular and even comfortable to use. Subcompact cars should be called a car. Two-seat cars should be called a compact car. And one-seat should be more popular and called Subcompact. B segment sedans should be called family car. SUV should be banned. You got the idea.
But, as others pointed out, I don’t understand how busses as public transport should work. How grocery logistic should work. How firetrucks should work. In imaginary city I described. This is dilemma for me.
