It would work out to be a bit of mutually assured murder of their families.

Thugs A and B are never allowed to know each other.

If thug A decides to kill oligarch A, and then travel a long distance to aid thug B in killing oligarch B, then they could likely fail, because oligarchs A & B worked out a means to communicate their proof of life to each other. Many ways to do that, including dedicated messengers. If oligarch B hasn’t received a timely proof of life, then they murder thug A’s family and tell thug B that their family is in danger from outsiders overtaking bunker A. Thug B will likely travel to bunker A.

The thugs would have to collude. A major goal of the oligarchs will be placing many obstacles against collusion.

Better yet would be some cooperation between remote bunkers, where family for workers of bunker A are held far away in bunker B, and vice versa.

It would not surprise me if he started appropriating our taxpayer dollars towards them.

You are right in that “idiot” is the wrong word, but I am too much of an idiot to know the correct term for individuals who can be the masters of all knowledge and science, yet bring harm to others based on groupthink because they just want to play with others in their small part of the world. They destroy countless better futures.

I truly understand the benefits of communities evolved from religious associations. I love that stuff! I would bet that nearly 100% of humans love that stuff. It is truly beneficial, but often, only for that group, because they are too susceptible to ingroup/outgroup dynamics causing them to do harm to outsiders.

There are at least a couple groups:

1. Those who believe that not suspending their disbelief will invite the devil into their hearts. They fear letting doubt in.
2. Those who go to church for social connections. They fear not fitting in, or being pushed out.
