  • What’s happening in our country is a political genocide. Us citizens that don’t agree with the administration are getting hounded by federal masked agents. I’m just glad in my relatively unpopulated and very dem area I have yet to see ice or any nonsense. The “city” I live in wouldn’t qualify for a small town in neighboring states so I get a bit shielded from all the crap going on, but I fear that means I can make no meaningful impact before it’s too late because by the time they come for small America there won’t be an America as we would like to know it.

  • Nice. Unfortunately for the USA, I believe we have more right wing morons than your country has a population as a whole. It is very hard to beat out our loud minority (magats etc). Unfortunately I believe our population has been far too complacent to billionaire interests for far too long and now we’re reaping what our fathers sowed. It’s tough. There is a lot of unrest. I live in one of the most liberal states in the country, where our president is threatening to pull federal funding for not bowing down to the supreme leader. But you bet your ass I can’t skip out on paying the fed taxes this year. We have people on the other side of the continent telling us who is and isn’t allowed in our communities. I fear we’re beyond redemption at this point, and we have a whole generation that will have to attone for our ancestors sins.

  • Shit the sub 1$ drive through meals were the shit. I remember being hungry and being able to crape through my floors and center console for a handful of quarters and cheffing up a mcgangbang off the mcdanks 1$ menu. When fast food was actually cheap instead of costing what a real meal at a burger shop would be. We didn’t know how good we had it when Obama was in office.

  • I had just moved from Texas to RI as my father took a severance package from the military. We went from a family of 6 surviving on one military paycheck, to my father making almost 4x what he made in the military as a professor. When we moved north I remember my parents talking about how the house they got was twice as expensive as the house we lived in in Texas, so you can imagine my surprise when we got there and it was almost half of the size! My father being a professor ment my mother, and us 4 kids had the opportunity to attend higher education. Our lives changed a lot! No more moving every 2-3 years, things were tight being 2008 but not near as tight as we were used to.

  • Yes they can, but most (let’s use Subaru for example) said they had life time fluid despite having a replaceable filter, as they don’t give a shit if it grenades at 100k miles cuz if it’s out of warranty you have to buy a transmission from them! They later back tracked and said oh yea actually u should service your transmission. And this isn’t just a cvt issue, bmw was doing the filled for life crap back in the early 2000s. Automatic transmissions are hydrolic devices, and any hydrolic device is only as good as it’s hydrolic fluid.

  • Cars today are simply not more reliable. I have drug a 48 Willy’s out of a barn that had been sitting for decades, adjusted the points and drained the fuel and put in new. Marvel mystery oil down the plug holes and bar by hand to ensure not seized and cleaned out the carb and she fired right up. Old cars may require more frequent service due to old mechanical systems, but they will far outlive anything made in the last 20 years. Automobile reliability peaked between 1990 and 2005 or so, anything made after is over complex (think can bus, one frayed wire and ur cars whole network goes down and immobilized you) and anything earlier still needs frequent attention yet very robust in design. Long service intervals =/= reliability, their just making them disposables after 100k miles now. See: low tension piston rings, cvt transmissions, “lifetime” fluids (no such thing…), carbon issues on intake valves and engine internals from direct injection and overstated service intervals to keep projected ownership costs down, oh I could go on and write a book about how new cars ain’t shit.

  • No kidding! I never feel like I have enough time, always feel like I’m behind on all my projects and spreading myself thin. When I had less money and less projects and didn’t own a house I played so much more video games and messed around Linux installing new distro every couple weeks on my old rigs or laptops that had fallen into my lap. Now my times all tied up with all the messes I have gotten myself into, speaking of which I should probably be putting the new exhaust fan in my bathroom that’s been sitting new in the box for 6 months or something instead of fucking off in the fediverse :'(
