The real reason that the US hasn’t legally declared a war since the 40s is because we haven’t been able to win a war since then. If all of our wars were officially declared as our constitution says they should we’d be like 12 losses under at this point.

As far as the mission of The Fed is concerned - Regulating usury so that this oroboros of an economy takes as long as possible to eat itself - He’s been a pretty good steward. As it’s primarily a mission to preserve the stability and dominance of capital I’m inclined to say let them fight. But remember that ultimately, over delayed time scales these high level finance things do ultimately affect the quality of life of regular people in big ways.

He actually doesn’t directly control rates, he’s the chair of a board that includes about a dozen regional vice chairs who all vote on rate adjustments. He presumably has an outsized political influence on their direction but ultimately he’s executing on and announcing the board’s decisions.

Yeah, I dislike when people moderate their beliefs and opinions around the most recent event that made them feel an emotion. If the person above advocates the death penalty for this guy, it implies they advocate for the death penalty in general, and that’s mega fucked. But almost as fucked is the notion that their opinion changed entirely based on their emotion in this moment. It means they have little or no foundation for their own ethics and ideology. It means they’re potentially reactionary, untrustworthy, or ideologically immature. It means that they cannot argue for or consistently demand a coherent vision for a better world. It’s a huge liability.

Reminder that the NRA is a gun manufacturer trade organization. They don’t represent or even necessarily fight on behalf of gun owners. The reason that many gun owners are NRA members is because the NRA provides low-cost insurance for gun ranges, with the requirement that users must be in the NRA.

On that note, if you do shoot: Seek out the minority of non-NRA ranges to do it at, find appropriate public land, or approved private property. Don’t patronize NRA-insured ranges.

Also I’ve always found this look repulsive not because of anything to do with cultural associations but because it triggers my disease avoidance instincts.
