No, this is BS and not how the real world works. If would be fine if you’ve left it as a meme. Developers (in corps) don’t decide what they’ll work on.

Technology@lemmy.world•Erin Brockovich Launches Public Registry to Track Data Center ComplaintsEnglish
1·11 days agoIt also says the goal isn’t to track every data center out of the 4000 operating in the US, just the ones the public is concerned about, yet there are over 8000 user submissions shown.
This erodes my confidence in the data, as there appear to be no checks or filters.

37·12 days agoSure , that still lands on your floor, and you wash the floor.
You’re being overly sensitive. It’s well known the average sink has way more bacteria than a toilet, yet that’s where we wash the dishes. Do you stop using the sink because it’s gross?

1·18 days agoThere are use cases for everything. Cheaper electricity during the night - schedule the dryer to sync with that. Disabled and can’t reach the AC or light controls easily? Do it through your phone.
The real problem IMO is that these are implemented poorly, insecurely* and often through closed ecosystems, remote servers and million apps.
If this was done well, users like you could ignore the features, and others could make use of them. When you can’t turn a fan on because your Fast Fans app logged you out, then I’d just rather not…
No, that would cost too much extra in manufacturing, and we’re all sitting for this anyway

11·25 days agoThat’s fair. I’m probably not thinking it through. I can certainly see how this could quickly go downhill. I think we’ll see the reality of it with today’s school generations getting jobs in a few decades.

AAA do not manufacture demand for storage, that’s frankly ridiculous.
This is a simple issue of optimization:
A: noone cares to optimise the size when performance is a much bigger issue.
B: games are still often optimised for HDDs on consoles (duplicated assets), then ported to PC with as little effort as possible

It could be the pressure of ‘staying pretty’
making them hate themselves for eating to the point of detriment. I understood that ozempic, the weight loss drug, is also widely used, which could be additional peer pressure.
These people are constantly scrutinised under a microscope, it’s a lot to handle.
Obviously all speculations, there could be other reasons.
