Games@lemmy.world•Ubisoft target audience when they play a good gameEnglish
1181·5 days agoHalf-Life was the same. The game doesn’t spoon feed you a narrative, the same way real life doesn’t have a narrator (at least one outside of your head).
You need to pay attention to your surroundings, listen in to NPCs talking, read posters on the wall, etc to piece together the story.
It was and is one of the cooler ways to do storytelling in my opinion. Cutscenes etc are fine but for a first person game, I love the immersion of the story happening around you rather then being loredumped on you while your agency is taken away from you.

101·8 days agoBad for Meta. They wasted a lot of time, money, manpower etc.
Edit: I’m just answering the person’s question. I hate Meta - I don’t have Facebook and I don’t have a Quest.

6·13 days agoBormanis was given a hard task, to be fair. So many scripts just had (TECH) written where the writers needed help and Bormanis would have to shoehorn something in (and before Bormanis, the actors probably just made a lot of it up).
Thankfully most of the science fiction isn’t in that technobabble but in the plot lines; questioning what it is to be human, to be civilised, and what meaning there is to life, post-scarcity.

131·15 days agoStar Wars is an action/adventure/drama series that happens to be in space (they called it “space opera” for good reason).
Star Trek is a science fiction series, at least until Fuller/Kurtzman (where it strayed more to action/adventure). You kind of have to bisect Star Trek into pre and post Roddenberry/Berman.

Good spot. And I love lowercase 𝑓 with ascender and descender.
