i meant “AI” in this sense. and sure, it is sort of funny, but it’s also, imo… shitty, actually, to cause people to believe ridiculous-and-untrue things (especially about someone like hegseth) because if/when they find out that they were misled it tends to sow doubt about the many ridiculous-but-true things they’ve also learned about him.

fwiw the first and last images in this post both were first published in this USA today article back in April, attributed to anonymous crew members of the USS Tripoli and USS Abraham Lincoln.

The colors match? It’s true the color next to the Côte d’Ivoire label does correspond with a blob which could overlap with the country’s actual location, but… none of the countries depicted here correspond with the shapes of any actual countries. The entire thing is generative slop.

the margin between leave and remain being a bit higher among voters who have since died than it was during the referendum a decade ago isn’t really surprising at all, it just reflects the fact that leave voters skewed older.
also “excluding don’t know” for both sides of the graph makes no sense; there should be a “didn’t vote” category on the left and a “not sure” category on the right.

this post links to the wikipedia article “stream capture” (which the article says is also called stream piracy).
the article is about fluvial geomorphology.
the title i chose for it (“Stream capture, also known as stream piracy, is not a good alternative to bittorrent”) is a joke, premised on the fact that the terms “stream capture” and “stream piracy” can also refer to ripping (aka capture, a technique which can be used for piracy) of streaming media.
BitTorrent is a popular protocol often used for pirating media. In truth, capturing (video) streams is an alternative to using BitTorrent for piracy, but the quality of media one can find on BitTorrent is often much higher than what one can find on streaming sites. So, many discerning pirates would agree with the statement in the post title. However (in my opinion, at least) the incongruous subject of the linked article makes this funny.

Because it isn’t secure. It is marketed as being secure, and it is not. It is snake oil.
Just to clarify, are you aware Telegram is blocked in Russia by the government
yes, i am aware that they are (again) currently blocked. i’m curious your theory for why they were unblocked after the previous blocks? (note: please don’t actually reply to this question here; see end of this comment first)

yes, you are mistaken.
Russia has strengthened and later weakened their restrictions on Telegram various times over the years for reasons which are probably unknowable without insider information. What is clear is that Telegram is absolutely sharing data (which they’ve chosen to design their service such that they can have access to) with various governments at various times; assuming that they never would share any with Russia is nonsensical. The extent to which they willingly share which data with which governments, versus which governments access data without their cooperation (by compromising their servers or coercing their engineers, which gives access to message contents due to their lack of e2ee) is not particularly interesting.
Beyond that, I recommend that you post on [email protected] or somewhere similar if you need people to explain why telegram is offtopic in communities about privacy technology. (This discussion is very offtopic in this thread so I won’t reply further here. If you really feel the need to argue about the above I recommend you do it in a new thread somewhere it isn’t offtopic; if you tag me maybe i’ll reply there.)

imo the reason is pretty clear in the modlog you’re linking to. the ban duration was disproportionate though, so, i just unbanned you. (please do not advocate for the use of telegram in [email protected] though! lmao)
This led to a few larger instances blocking it (.world I think is the kargst to have done so) blocking it, so their users cannot access *.ml communities.
Huh? Lemmy.world has not blocked lemmy.ml, nor have (correct me if i’m wrong?) any other large instances.
