63·1 day agoLike if I’m watching a YouTube video and it’s 4:3, I’m perfectly fine with YouTube filling the sides with ads
Look at the photo in the OP. The ads are on a completely separate (attached) display.

212·1 day agoI wonder how much money consumers will spend on products that are advertised to them when they won’t even buy a TV…
Also I wonder what the quality is like on a “free” TV…

6·3 days agoYes and no. If we’re talking about email, that’s completely different from Lumo, and can either be run locally or server-side with encryption, which is then immediately deleted.

But I mean email is generally not private anyway.

4·3 days agoYeah I did say it was a neat art project but the title also says “to prove a big point”. What does it prove?

18·3 days agoI mean, that’s a neat art project. But doesn’t really prove anything. You could spin up a hundred VMs and spoof the location and achieve the same thing but…why? Piss someone off by rerouting traffic through their neighborhood?

Technology@lemmy.world•Epic and Google have a secret $800 million Unreal Engine and services dealEnglish
341·3 days agothe court revealed that Epic and Google have struck a new deal that apparently includes “joint product development, joint marketing commitment, joint partnerships.”
- What does any of this have to do with Unreal Engine?
- If this is a “settlement” that means Timmy is pulling up the ladder he used to win previous cases behind him. I guess that’s his prerogative as he invested in it when no one else would, but still kind of a dick move.
“Epic’s technology is used by many companies in the space Google is operating in to train their products, so the ability for Google to use the Unreal Engine more fullsome… sorry, I’m blowing this confidentiality,” Sweeney said.
Use of the word “train” leads me to believe this has to do with the 2-letter money-printing machine, which would explain Timmy’s recent defense of it.
