As someone who loves linux and FOSS some of these are far from being replacements and some of these are even upgrades. It does depend on one’s usage though. Like I couldn’t tell a Photoshop power user that gimp is a full replacement. I could say though that blender is an upgrade from cinema 4D.

Some people are dual citizens. I’m not saying this is for everyone but it is a very valid situation for some people. Generally speaking taking money earned over a lifetime in a wealthier country and injecting it into a poorer country is a benefit to the poorer country.

Why pay $80,000 per year in an expensive country for mediocre care when I could spend $10,000 for my parents in our cheaper home country for exceptional care. There’s like almost 200 countries in the world and life can be very very nice in honestly most of them with a bit of money.

Edit: this is a very useful strategy for dual citizens or people with family in more than one country and ultimately taking money earned in a wealthier country and bringing it to the economy of a poorer country is a benefit to the poorer country. I’m not saying this is a solution for everyone, but it is a very valid situation for some people. One could retire early or enjoy a much higher standard of living and care by just leaving a higher COL location. The same can be done within a country such as leaving the city and moving to a rural area where the COL is much lower.

There’s a time and a place. I used to live in the mountains and do a lot of mountain biking. There were a lot of really tight roads with no bike lanes or shoulder with blind turns and all it would take is someone just not automatically assuming there’s a cyclist on the other side of that turn going 15km/h on a road with a speed limit of 50+km/h to turn a nice bike ride into your last bike ride. I used to barrel down mountain trails and I could never stomach that risk guys would take on the roads.

Yeah, but it still begs the question of if the statement that sparked all of this was itself generated or not. I definitely use AI myself in research but in the same way I use Wikipedia, like a starting point. Its tough to imagine a content creator who likely has a whole team of professionals that he pays just letting it go to waste. Maybe his team has become overly reliant on AI and instead of calling them out he’s chosen to take the heat.

In the end it’s a worthwhile discussion to have for the young and weak willed on the issues of AI usage , kinda similar to the discussion on social media usage or just internet usage all together.
