  • It’s probably because there is something out of frame that is reflecting light perpendicular to the sun. Look at the trim on both porch roofs to the far left and compare it to the porch farther right just below the spire; they should be the same shadow intensity but the left one is noticably brighter. Plus its rare to see such a bright roof with dark trim in real life which adds to the uncanniness.

A lot of slang are either african american vernacular english or from incel/4chan culture in origin but over time they become divorced from their origins. If you were to ask a kid about “sigma” they’d likely have no idea that it came from incel circles. To the typical kid these terms are ‘how all my friends talk’ and the origins aren’t a consideration.

  • Some “old home remedies” would be: tomato sauce, for skunk; peanut butter, for gum; and prairie oyster cocktail, for hangover. Most of these either don’t work or make the mess worse so a game show where people try this on a wild animal would be disastrous and possibly humorous if you ignore the animal abuse.

  • To your second point you might find some explanations in film studies. The rise of viscerally violent zombie/horror movies of the 2000s has been widely discussed. Its typically attributed to: political instability (911/war on terror); fear of diseases (2002 SARS/1999 west nile virus); natural disasters (Huricane Katrina 2005/climate change); and economic crisis (dotcom bubble 2000/2007 economic recession). Essentially widespread fears and anxieties shape our media and I think (some) video games being darker, grittier, and more violent in that time period reflect this.
