A lot of slang are either african american vernacular english or from incel/4chan culture in origin but over time they become divorced from their origins. If you were to ask a kid about “sigma” they’d likely have no idea that it came from incel circles. To the typical kid these terms are ‘how all my friends talk’ and the origins aren’t a consideration.

Its been around for almost a decade.
Oh man, its been ages since I was on funny-insults, I’m kind of surprised they’re still around.
That made me realise that there is a parallel between fea and mortal and a lord and bond. If a mortal eats fae food they can never return to the mortal realm, much like a peasant is tied to their lords land in exchange for keeping some of the crop to eat.
Some “old home remedies” would be: tomato sauce, for skunk; peanut butter, for gum; and prairie oyster cocktail, for hangover. Most of these either don’t work or make the mess worse so a game show where people try this on a wild animal would be disastrous and possibly humorous if you ignore the animal abuse.
Thats specular lens flare (ghosting), it looks like multiple little dots here, instead of a larger dot, since the light is partially blocked by tree branches. A lens hood and repositioning the camera are the only ways to prevent these.

Was surprised by how old that footage was, and saddened to learn that Fatso passed away long before his fame as a meme.
To your second point you might find some explanations in film studies. The rise of viscerally violent zombie/horror movies of the 2000s has been widely discussed. Its typically attributed to: political instability (911/war on terror); fear of diseases (2002 SARS/1999 west nile virus); natural disasters (Huricane Katrina 2005/climate change); and economic crisis (dotcom bubble 2000/2007 economic recession). Essentially widespread fears and anxieties shape our media and I think (some) video games being darker, grittier, and more violent in that time period reflect this.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What search engine do you guys use?English
5·18 days agoNo ai ddg has been a decent general search engine, but if I can’t find something I’ll us marginalia, mojeek, alltheinternet, and even yandex (if I’m desperate). For your research: InstallGentoo Wiki has a fairly comprehensive list of search engines albeit not the most up to date; Seirdy has a blog post reviewing many search engines including some more niche ones; and The Search Engine Map illustrates which engines use what index.

14·19 days agoTo each their own I suppose. Personally I’ve only met women that liked points 2 through 4. Is worrying about her getting enough sleep or eating well considered dominant?

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How often are your windows open? What about during Winter? or during Summer? Do you open windows to let in fresh air?English
2·23 days agoHow old is stoßlüften? I know people that are always opening windows and telling their kids to go outside to “blow the stink off” and while they have german ancestry it would be from over a hundred years ago.

It’s probably because there is something out of frame that is reflecting light perpendicular to the sun. Look at the trim on both porch roofs to the far left and compare it to the porch farther right just below the spire; they should be the same shadow intensity but the left one is noticably brighter. Plus its rare to see such a bright roof with dark trim in real life which adds to the uncanniness.
