Sunsets, a good breeze, sitting in a window with the sun on me, not the cold but being bundled up and warm when it’s cold out, bird sounds, extra rooty trees, puffy clouds, whispy clouds, people laughing, backyard rodents livin they lives, old cars, car maintenance, well figured pieces of wood, cooking, cooking with others, running errands with friends

News@lemmy.world•Congressional Republicans advance federal ‘don’t say trans’ school bill
141·6 days agoNot pressing to you maybe, but state sanctioned descrimination like this is dehumanizing and dangerous. Shit like this rips apart families and gets kids killed.
It would be nice to live in a world where I don’t have to worry so much about bills, but that doesn’t mean shit to me if it comes at the cost of the erasure of anyone. Trans, queer, black, Latino, I don’t give a fuck.
What good is healthcare if it’s a felony to tell your doctor what’s wrong with you? What good is affordable housing if no one will rent to you?
Liberation for all or none.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What unofficial / fun names are there for monuments where you live?
6·12 days agoYeah It was struck by lightning and burned down. They rebuilt it a few years later with a doofier Jesus.
There was a whole debate amongst the locals ala “is it right to rebuild it?” “Was this a message from god?”, some people were mad they rebuilt it, everyone hated the new design, then everyone moved on.
People over the age of like 30 still call him touchdown Jesus. It’s not the same anymore but it’s what immediately came to mind when I read the prompt.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is something you dont care to understand or "get"?
2·18 days agoI’m the same way.
Put on a movie and I’m asleep before the first scene is done.
I’m a tinkerer, need something to do with my hands and keep my mind occupied or I lose all interest. Video games often fill that but don’t feel useful in any way. They aren’t even a distraction from my real life, they’re just something to do I guess. Which isn’t what I like to do I guess

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What’s your most controversial opinion?
71·22 days agoBig disagree. It’s all about context in the time they were big. Nowadays they’re really nothing special, they have good songwriting but what made them special is so common nowadays that they fade into the background of notable music.
When the Beatles were big, they were pioneering writing songs in a “post standards” music industry. Their marketing injected a lot more of the individuals personalities into the image and music in a way others hadn’t quite done before. The “songwriter” became the focus.
With all their fame they were able to experiment heavily and pioneered / popularized a whole plethora of studio techniques that were too expensive to explore for most other musicians (heavily isolated stereo panning, layers and layers of multi tracking, cut and pasting bit and chunks of dozens of takes for the perfect final print).
We don’t look twice at that stuff now cause I can open ableton and record hours and hours of whatever bullshit comes to mind without a second thought. Everything has been stereo since I was born. Multi tracking is standard process.
The Beatles are old hat, but they were the fucking bee’s knee’s when they were big.

8·22 days agoPolyamory isn’t much better ime
Cheating still exists in polyamory, and you still get the same toxic bullshit as monogamy except now you have the added bonus of shaky accountability because “well you knew we were poly” …
Most people don’t do the groundwork to be able to hold a healthy and stable poly system and end up doing a lot of damage in the name of “enjoying themselves”.
Toxic people will be toxic regardless of relational preferences, but I think polyamory allows self absorbed and abusive people the shield of “you agreed to this” when in reality, they’re often looking for loopholes in boundaries or miscommunicating / twisting communicated hard limits or emotional boundaries to fit their actions.
Poly folk love to act all high and mighty like having more than one partner makes you inherently greater than mono folk when really it’s just preference for different styles of love.
I say this as someone who is actively practicing polyamory. Not all assholes are chefs, but any asshole can be a chef.

News@lemmy.world•Student who punched another student holding pro-ICE sign at Lake Zurich High School received 2-day suspension
51·29 days agoKid was walking through the high on attention with a big ol sign to advertise for an untrained, highly aggresive, indescriminatly brutal paramilitary force acting out of their jurisdiction and kidnapping people off of the streets mostly without even documenting where they take them. Kid knows damn well what he supports and wants everyone to know it.
There is a time for civil debate and there’s a time for punchin’
I think carrying a sign in support of ice should count as punchin’ worthy.
Standardize not holding women to ambiguous and hazy hierarchical standards like “class” 🙄
Standardize letting women just be people and minding your damn business. Like wtf is this answer?
I was expecting like the metric system, or the number of continents but no… I’m going to go outside and rip ass so hard today, just for you buddy. 👍
