I’ve been on the fence about kimchi. I tried so many in Canada and Australia, but I just don’t like the flavour. However, couldn’t stop eating it when I was in South Korea. Definitely the jar vs fresh thing. I find the jar stuff just too strong.
Ask me food safety and food science questions.
What is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?
The goal this year (2026) is to lurk less and post and comment more.

A bit of sriracha would go well, yes! And also yes, I was too excited and hungry, so I might have put a little too much pressure on the roll when cutting, haha!
Currently sitting on a step stool while out shopping with the +1 while he tries on dress shirts for a wedding he’s going to next week. I would kill to be eating this pizza right now.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Those with a smart watch, which one and how do you use it daily?English
3·6 days agoI have a Garmin Fenix 5 Plus. I track my activities whether it’s a long walk, a hike, or paddle. It helps when hiking because if I get a bit lost, I can look at the map to see the trails I’ve walked, or how fast I’ve paddled/hiked/etc. It also has an emergency function so if my heart rate suddenly spikes or if I quickly drop in height (like a cliff, though it has been triggered once when I climbed down a water fall), it’ll send an emergency message to my emergency contacts with coordinates.
I have it set to remind me to move every hour if I haven’t moved from my desk. This in addition to step counts.
Sleep tracking, though Garmin is/was notorious for poor sleep tracking, so I don’t really count on it too much.
Date and time. I also have a little clock on the bottom to tell me what time it is back home so I know when to not call.
I like seeing my fitness go up on the dial. Not so much the other way around.
I also use it for my morning wake up alarm. It vibrates on my wrist instead of an audible alarm to wake up the +1. He doesn’t have a smart watch, so I wake up every morning at stupid o’clock.
Badges. I love collecting the badges.

1·6 days agoInteresting! I have heard almost similar with eye-byoo-proh-fen instead. Wonder if it’s a regional thing or an individual thing.

1·8 days agoThat’s a good one! Maybe not quite on top, but still a good answer. I think it’d be like how they teach us directions as kids: Never Eat Shredded Wheat, Never Eat Soggy Weiners,… Just looked up how others remember this, and some of them are NSFW. 😂

2·9 days agoHmm… Might be a roundabout way, but occurrence could be that good things occur in threes… So 3 C’s. I don’t know what to do about the double R’s though.

2·9 days agoThere are so many words that are squiggles under words when my documents are set to “English (Australia)”… Program vs programme, feces vs faeces (I swear I don’t just talk about bodily functions all the time - it’s part of my job).
I did write “candy” on one of my first Food Act Orders that I wrote here in AUS, and my boss wanted to look over them before I sent them out. She circled it in red and wrote “What is this”. Granted, she was a very peculiar individual and I don’t think she ever left her city to explore what was out there.

1·10 days agoI’ve had a big day so I haven’t had time to respond to all of the comments, but this cracked me up so I have to explain now before sleep, haha. I’m so sorry for laughing. What I meant is just for the spelling of diarrhea vs diarrhoea.
However, I did spend a lot of time in regional Victoria waaaay out west (7 years) and they really did border on saying “diarr-roy-uh”… Or “diarr-ROYEE-uh”. There’s really no way of putting some Aussie pronunciations in to words. Maybe occa. When I first saw “naur”, it was so odd, but it kinda works.

Thank you! The first time I went to Europe, we stayed in Germany for a week, and I did Amsterdam for only a few days. Will definitely be back to expand our culinary horizons for sure.
I’ve yet to try bread in a Dutch supermarket, but I can confirm that this bread loaf was yum! If I were to go the Netherlands, would you be able to recommend a shop and/or type of bread? The last time I was there, I was mad for the funnel cakes 😅

10·16 days agoKnowing where to not eat, stay, swim, or do any beauty/health treatments (tattoos, mani/pedi, hairdressing, etc.), and knowing how to protect myself.
Scouting out festivals and special events pre-opening and during for free.
Learning secret recipes and secret ingredients to make food level up.
Flexibility.
Edit: Clearly did not read instructions. The top one is the best perk. The second one is on par if I got to do more festivals!
I found the button, thank you!

Oh gods.
