The whole idea of a work requirement for medicaid is insane. You can’t mooch off healthcare to support yourself, it isn’t a replacement for income. If anything, this will only cause more people to become unable to work because they lose access to the care that helps keep them in the workforce.

It’s completely backwards. They want you to be outraged because some poor person might get government funded healthcare without having a job. The real outrage is that employers can pay workers a low enough wage that they need government assistance to make up the difference.

I look forward to someone making an appropriate oompa loompa song for his exit.

You can point to those civilizations because their collapse was not the end, life continued on. We haven’t been hit by a gamma ray burst or any other complex life ending disaster since we are here to discuss the scenario. But that’s no guarantee that we won’t be.

The odds of anything happening to render Earth totally uninhabitable are very small… in our lifetimes. But as long as we keep existing, the time frame will keep growing, the opportunities for disaster will keep accumulating and the odds will keep multiplying. The basic math looks very different when you multiply by infinity. Even the sun won’t last forever.

Obviously, this is no reason to neglect Earth and rush to other planets. But it is reason enough to reject the idea that we should never spread to other worlds because Earth will always be enough.

On the one hand, yes, the Borg get all the attention. But on the other hand, that also resulted in them getting dumbed down, watered down, and utterly violated with the nerf bat until they were left cowering in a corner and sobbing.

I almost wish they’d stopped with the Borg stuff after Best of Both Worlds. At the very least they should have set some hard limits on how much they would ever be allowed to show up, maybe once or twice a series.

IIRC, something similar happened behind the scenes with Q; the plan had originally been for him to be a frequent visitor on TNG but it was realized that his constant presence would only diminish the character so they limited him to roughly once a season.

Apparently someone (I forget who, probably the director) was unsure about whether they should go that far. So he showed the final cut of the scene to his five-year-old son. When the kid wasn’t noticeably traumatized, the decision was made to keep the scene in as is.

Cast them out how? There is no central organization overseeing all Christian groups. You can literally start your own church tomorrow if you want and there’s nothing anyone can do to stop you, or keep others from associating with you.

It’s not so different from the fediverse. You can ban people, but you can’t stop them from going somewhere else. And if they start their own instance, you can defederate from it but you can’t actually shut them down or stop others from joining them.

Also, UHF is a comedic masterpiece.

The Shadow (1994) is delightful. It’s fun, atmospheric, and does a great job of capturing the quaint charm of old timey pulp storytelling in a more modern action movie. It’s just a treat, and I honestly can’t believe it bombed, and as far as I know, never even got a cult following.

The Adventures of Brisco County Jr only got one season and has mostly passed into obscurity. Which is a shame because it’s fun and can be a great little time capsule from the days when people thought the future might actually be something to be optimistic about.

Cabin Boy is not what you’d call… good. BUT it is still weirdly enjoyable. It’s an experience. One other people should have. Whether they want it or not.

Advent Rising was so unsuccessful it helped kill the publisher, and it got terrible reviews. And yeah, the game feels like there are glaring omissions due to it being rushed out. But I absolutely love it. The powers are cool, the story is simple but works, and it definitely left me wanting more.

Also, Babylon 5 will always be underrated because it’s not possible to rate it highly enough.
