Yep, at the very least he was governing trying to be good, and had/has a conscience. No comparison to the outright evil for evil’s sake going on now.

Yeah, that certainly could be the FBI’s gameplan here. Withhold evidence while the outrage is fresh and there is pressure to charge, beat the case, and then the murderer has the typical right-wing epilogue and runs for Congress.

Fortunately there is no statute of limitation on murder.

It’s been a long year, and I’m learning there are actually 52 years in a year.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Fox News is the only one the administration bothered to tell.

To be honest, you will never find a generalized site/service that has many types of niche content like Reddit unless people coalesce to a single platform and the scale allows it.
I think it’s fine if you end up finding your niche community on some esoteric website/forum, more power to you. But for a single one-stop collection of niche communities, I think the best way to get there is just to sit tight with Lemmy/Piefed/Mastodon, honestly, because at some point those communities will reach critical mass and be self-sustaining (but not if people don’t stick around long enough for it to happen).
Of course also starting/contributing to your niche community speeds things along.

Yup, they don’t even see the same reality we do. As if his camera shaking was proof he was in danger.
It’s not hard for them to see the actual explanation, but they have no interest in finding it. Maybe it was shaking because he moved slightly out of the way (which the other video clearly shows) he was firing his gun? No? Right-wing Twitter just wants to feel right and not think too hard about it? Okay.

Well, that depends…did you vote for a pedophile recently?

Oh, agree completely. He’s a slightly unhinged mountain man grandpa who happens to be very very right on this issue. But beggars can’t be choosers at this point.

I don’t want him to run, I was a bit embarrassed he was governor when he was, but I do like what he says here.
Americans in position of visibility and authority need to normalize talking about the Republican party as a domestic enemy to the Constitution, in particular. Not calling it what it is just normalizes it.

Oh, Donald Trump, the great athlete who possesses and therefore also won the FIFA World Cup? The one who can’t distinguish literal and symbolic thought? That Trump?

Sure, but they would have done it 8 months ago if they had an excuse. We didn’t give them one, and we made it 8 months more without an escalation to overt declaration of martial law.
Even if it seems inevitable, lots of things can happen that change the calculus in our favor (not least of which is Trump’s black heart finally giving out) by just buying more time. On the other hand, if fed up citizens react with violence, that permanently will normalize what’s happening right now.
From the Lemmy responses I’ve seen, I assume people think that’s naive. But I don’t think people can imaginine how much worse it will get if we make it to an overt military state, and how much higher the challenge will be to revert to a semblance of democracy. It’s a one-way ratchet, they have all the weapons, money and institutions, and that’s why Stephen Miller and Trump are so eager for it.

They’re flexing every ill-gotten power they have to disappear this obvious murder, but I don’t think this is going to go away.
Vance is just faking it until he makes it, like normal. Just embarrassing, like a child holding a cigarette stolen from his mom’s purse to impress his friends.

Thanks, must be a mobile client issue. Got it from the Mastodon link.

Was the video removed? Getting a source error.

Sorry, you’re in the group that the law binds but does not protect.

There is going to have to be an investigation, arrest, trial, conviction and punishment. Failure to do any of these things is just going to be a powderkeg exploding. You see the video and it’s clear she isn’t trying to run him over. You see the video and it’s clear she isn’t a terrorist. You see the video and it’s clear the agent was never in danger. This is state-sponsored murder by an unlawful posse. We reached the Duterte stage this quickly, less than one year from inauguration.
The bluechecks and bots on Twitter are just fascist accelerationists trying to make armed conflict happen as fast as possible to give cover for martial law and seize power. And that may be how it plays out. But they are literally out here killing innocent US citizens, and all of the deeply-embedded racism and xenophobia that lets Americans shrug at a brown person or an immigrant with a Latin-sounding name getting abused or killed, it’s not here.
This is different and I don’t think it’s going away.

Thank you, that’s exactly what I was looking for. More than *10K entries, by the look of it…

FYI, the most relevant information to avoiding your phone showing up in ICE’s rented databases is how they are getting the location data:
The material does not say how Penlink obtains the smartphone location data in the first place. But surveillance companies and data brokers broadly gather it in two different ways. The first is from small bundles of code included in ordinary apps called software development kits, or SDKs. SDK owners then pay the app developers, who might make things like weather or prayer apps, for their users’ location data. The second is through real-time bidding, or RTB. This is where companies in the online advertising industry place near instantaneous bids to get their advert in front of a certain demographic. A side effect is that companies can obtain data about peoples’ individual devices, including their GPS coordinates. Spy firms have sourced this sort of RTB information from hugely popular smartphone apps.
This includes a link to a prior 404 story that may have a list of apps, but it’s paywalled and none of the archive sites seem to have it indexed: https://www.404media.co/candy-crush-tinder-myfitnesspal-see-the-thousands-of-apps-hijacked-to-spy-on-your-location/
The one qualification anyone who works for Trump must have is never, ever admit to anything that reflects poorly on Trump. I don’t know if these people understand how embarrassing responses like Grenell’s are, or if they actively accept it as the price they pay for access to power.
