There’s a travel Youtuber I used to watch who goes around to places in the US to “just ask questions” to the locals. (read: looks for conservative opinions)

He has a couple of videos where he goes to natural disaster affected areas. The locals said in the Trump years the government provided more support than the Biden administration. I’m finding that kind of hard to believe considering the news stories seem to say the opposite.

Polls might go one way or the other on certain issues, but the GOP has done a good job of psychologically priming their base to reflexively default voting for them in the end.

There needs to be a second technological revolution.

The executions have already began with Renee Good and Alex Pretti. Good may have been a knee jerk reaction incident. Nothing is convincing me that Pretti wasn’t executed on orders. The 5150 protests were heating up. A unit of the gestapo was sent out specifically to put a bullet in someone’s head. The killers were immediately disappeared. The whole thing was orchestrated.

They report spam anything that challenges their views. It’s a broken windows type of strategy. Content mods will see a bunch of reports accumulated against you and assume you must be a problematic account.

Probably a number of reasons. Reddit’s main strategy for profit growth has been to expand to countries that speak English as a secondary language. Much of it is regional dialects such as Indian English. I think there might also be auto-translations? That would make writing appear odd when written in a different language and reddit translating it to English for them.

This might be trite but the overall intelligence level of reddit is at all time lows. Apparently reddit is really popular now with teenagers in certain parts of the world.

Several years ago I noticed a starkly different style of writing appearing all over reddit. Comments were being written one sentence per line. The lines were all disjointed. There wasn’t an overall idea. They write a random bunch of sentences that barely made sense together. Other accounts would engage with it as if there wasn’t anything out of the ordinary. I haven’t been able to figure that out.

They aren’t meant to be the star of the show. Their purpose is to be in the crowd and agitate. They’re the devil that whispers people’s ear.

Bots would have proven to the a failure if a botnet went down and culture wars vanished. Their intention is to manipulate people. Not to wholesale substitute to the population.

Besides the name itself seems to go over heads. Bot farms don’t operate out of a centralized server. They’re not even bots literally. These operations are farmed out to locations around the world. Sometimes they’re real human trolls.

Do you have a static IP? If you do, once you get shitlisted by the internet, it’s very hard to get off it without completely nuking your digital fingerprint. Your IP, your device identifiers. It’s all used to know that you’re the same person and they’ll instaban you. It’s mess.

Enshittification for you.

They’re using gig workers by the hundreds of thousands, if not millions to do “data annotation”. You can actually make quite a bit if you’ve got higher credentials like Phd, masters, or a very good resume.

My theory is they’ve been using professionals to inadvertently leak proprietary methodologies. They could be doing so by creating problems for them to solve that lead people to inadvertently expose solutions based on their actual jobs.

It’s lowkey corporate espionage.

They’re in rapid technological development cycles that’s reminiscent of the late 20th century USA. Often producing hilariously odd or bad gadgets, which people take as evidence that China sucks. As it’s said when it’s anything not-China, “you have to crack a few eggs to make an omelet”.

Nice job, but are you Rosenzweig level? Because booting the kernel on iPhones has been done before. Getting a usable software stack is a whole other territory.

It’s like a movie where a guy gets his one wish. Except nothing ever goes wrong.

Tech evangelists rely heavily on logical fallacies. False equivalence is one of the main ones. “A thing happened before therefore this tech is nothing to worry about”. They’re redirecting the argument to bait people to try to prove why calculators are bad. But of course the past already happened and nobody is going prove otherwise.

They’ll ignore the rules like they always do for the violent right.

It’s more common than you think probably. I clocked Quartz spamming reddit with garbage articles sometime in the mid-2010s. Who and what are these sites even. What are their credentials. Why did they suddenly spring up out of nowhere???

It didn’t require modern AI like LLMs. Simpler algorithms of copying articles and paraphrasing them have existed for a very long time.

Maybe over a decade ago web development reached a point when anyone could relatively easily churn out professional looking site designs. Most of the news sites we’ve been fed has been garbage such as you’ve described.

One source that nobody seems to ever notice is company press release pages. Boring reports that nobody otherwise cares about gets turned into clickbait headlines.

Business Company posts a routine boring press release on their website: “Business Stuff happened at the business factory. Business as usual.”

What you see generated for these garbage news sites: “Breaking News. Business Company announces MASSIVE BREAKTHROUGH in Business Stuff. Rival business factories on suicide watch?”

You don’t need LLMs or AI in general. This is basic site scraping.

This is why it feels bizarre to me how people are so stuck on the idea of reddit and reddit-like feed aggregation. The internet died due to enshitification and dead internet theory. But there’s a third factor. Nobody seems to actually want how the internet used to be. They only nostalgia for and fantasize about the idea of it.

They shake their heads when served up content older style content that isn’t bland corporatized slop. They want their familiar posts and handful of approved content sources.

Pretty much every subreddit started the way you described /r/startrek. Self posts and interesting links were the norm. Now most of them have a couple of pre-approved domains and posters.

Of course just about every mod’s excuse I’ve heard is they can’t be assed to actually moderate. So they set the automod filter to allow a few domains.

That’s my generous take. By now I’ve seen enough to know for sure that couple of mods of certain subs have been abusing this as cover for their own personal gain. But that’s another bunch of rants.

Let them show the world what they are. They’ve traditionally hidden their heinous ways from media so they can project an image of being the only one moral righteous nation.

Take the mask off. Show us everything.

That’s why the zeitgeist needs more time to settle on the perception of LLMs. It’s a cool toy, but people shouldn’t be getting it in their head that it gives them a shortcut to becoming a professional.
