Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Does purchasing a game on GOG.com really grants ownership of the game and not a license to use it?
42·7 days agoThe installed files are not an installer. What you’re referencing is moving the preexisting program files of a game

homeassistant@lemmy.world•2026.4: Infrared never left the chatEnglish
1·8 days agoOh yeah absolutely. That’s what this HA update sounds like it’s solving, which is very exciting! Going to need to pick up some ESP32s with IR myself now. The SofaBaton is a higher quality product that matches the Harmony which is why I brought it up

homeassistant@lemmy.world•2026.4: Infrared never left the chatEnglish
2·8 days agoIf you’re looking for Harmony level usage and have a pretty penny to spend, look at SofaBaton. Programmable universal remote with hub, and there are home assistant integrations for local control.

3DPrinting@lemmy.world•how do i fix top surface bulging in orcaslicer?English
2·10 days agoSecond gyroid infill. Doesn’t take much longer, and doesn’t scrape against itself while printing.
And also general tuning with a calibration cube. Verify temps and extrusion values, the usual.
Yours is so much nicer than mine!! I got this one made for our little studio apartment, but we never really used it so I didn’t bother polishing it up. The temp on the fridge is the apartment temp, and the lights are visible buttons, but I love your invisible buttons and will follow how you did it if I end up doing it again!

1·11 days agoWe owed money the last couple years. We definitely didn’t opt out of withholding, and we don’t make any income from interest. It’s as easy as just not having your paperwork done correctly. Or even when it is, as it was in our case, the default withholding is an estimate which is why most end up overpaying (hence the refunds). I ended up putting an additional $50/check for taxes so we’d at least be getting close to owing nothing. This is the first year in quite a few that we actually got some money back.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Would it be possible to purposefully induce alopecia universalis?
2·11 days agoDoesn’t sound like a mental health issue. It sounds more like a “I got stoned at 1am and got lost on a Wikipedia page about this disease and now I’m curious what could be possible” type thing. Hypotheticals can be fun!

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Do you feel distressed and like have an identity crisis when you have moments of your life that you can't remember? (especially childhood)
3·11 days agoNo? I didn’t have a bad childhood, and I’m sure there’s lots of memories that were made, but they’re long gone. We grow, learn, and evolve. Memories mold us into who we are now, and while it’s good to have important memories documented for recollection (such as keeping a journal), the majority of life is mundane or repeating tasks so those memories are ‘overwritten’ (so to speak) with more recent and relevant memories.
It’s generally strong emotional moments that we remember best. Lots of people in the comments talking about remembering their trauma. I vividly remember my spankings, and my brother dragging my arm across a car window edge, and other bad things.
But I also remember the good times. Going on vacations, spending time with extended family, hobbies I enjoyed as a kid.
Comparing the amount of memories I have from being a kid to now though, my childhood memories are just a distant thought at this point.

24·11 days agoCommenting more so I can easily find this thread again, since I’d be curious as well.
For personal photos that I share I use Immich, and Immich-Proxy for sharing the photos (so I’m don’t want to directly share the actual URL of my Immich server). Works well for that, but doesn’t anywhere meet the drag and drop simplicity of Imgur.
Which seasons of Sesame Street do you recommend having? There’s so many seasons, I don’t know which to get for my server. Getting things ready for our kid
The shots are way too consistent to be AI. If it was AI, we’d expect background details to change between each one. This feels like a high quality robot chicken production
Edit: See my newer top level comment with source. It is indeed AI

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Is it true that the education system is crap in America?
3·13 days agoDing ding ding!
My high school was in the nicer part of town, literally separated by a river from the rest of the city. Back then for second languages our school had Spanish, French, ASL, German, and even Latin! Our school had science teachers that won statewide awards, our football team was very competitive, the marching band (and music program in general) was phenomenal.
This was just a public school, and I’ve more than come to terms that the experience I had is nowhere near the norm compared to the rest of the country.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What were the 4-square homebew rules when you were growing up?
2·17 days agoI don’t recall having any special rules. We’d just hit the ball to another square and that was it.

ETA will always be Estimated Time of Arrival. An actual useful acronym.

Some people, sure. You and some in your close circle of acquaintances likely use it.
Not once have I ever needed to measure something in joules. I suspect that many people, if not most, don’t use joules in daily life.
