I was recently having a discussion with my girlfriend on why i feel this exact way. I was having alot of trouble putting into words what about it is so off putting to me. she accused me of kink shaming them, and I dont disagree with that assessment. But i was struggling to express WHY? I find the whole culture surrounding it disgusting. Weirdly it has nothing to do with the obvious infections and diseases associated with casual sex, and obviously people can do whatever they want in the privacy of their own homes. I generally take no issue with anything ‘odd’ in the bedroom. Theres just something off about the culture as a whole that sounds all the alarm bells in my brain.

Maybe someone can put into words what this feeling is and where its coming from?

Louis Rossman had a video years ago that really got me looking at people differently. An obvious sign for him is how they treat animals. animals sadly are often the ultimate litmus test for ones morality. I find that respecting an animal, its boundries and its emotions is a thing only possible when youve developed a (imo) basic sense of empathy, that for pets and animals cant be expressed verbally.

Think of times when a person was trying to force an animals to behave in a particular way purely for self intrest. Or if someone you know outright denies the complex emotions of animals. I am by no means an animal rights activist and i often can be heard yelling at my dog to stop barking or etc. But i think even if we “own” them most good people dont think of pets as propperty, status symbols, or entertainment.

the moment i see behavior like this I try to correct and if they actively fight me on it or make no attempt to improve. I will disconnect from them entirely, not worth it. If thats how you treat family, i dont want to see how you treat friends.

Reddit died imo when they limited API calls for app developers who made incredible 3rd party apps for the platform. Maybe theyve since fixed it, I wouldnt know since I felt cheated having supported baconreader and boost for their hard work in making the reddit exerience feel so premium. I tried the official reddit app and It was buggy garbage at the time. So IMO they pushed away a good chunk of their userbase even before the whole politicapocolypse, bann waves, community removals, etc.

While lemmy is not a perfect replacement in terms of numbers. I feel that every upvote and comment has more meaning here. People here are generally more productive and insightful. It makes me wonder how much bot traffic reddit had prior to the changes. Selfishly I kind of hope lemmy stays where it is in terms of popularity. You all seem generally really cool and It would be hard to find the real ones In the sea of reddit-esque nonsense.

I cannot find it, but my gf showed me this tiktok where a person made an extremely compentent remix within the fortnite music mode. It was a completely original work made of songs within fortnite it was very impressive. All that is to say Im not a fan of low effort work when just a small amount more could turn it into something new and interesting. Monitizing it is just an extra fu imo.

I do get what youre saying about struggling for money, but even so ive seen street artists with some insane talent and or ingenuity. Im of the belief that everyone can practice at something and make a living off of it even if its something wed consider mundane like… sweeping a floor. Im going to look up a professional sweeper right now on youtube and find someone with insane skill. And im sure the same is true with any task or art.

True. But at the same time If little to no effort is being put in, it does ride the line of being fair use. So if they are monitizing it which i dont think they were doing 15 years ago I find that kind of scummy. but other than that i look at it as the same thing as those AMVs back in the day. Just something someone made for the love of the source material.

Thats sad if they actually consider what they are doing art. Ive been out of the loop for a while but when I saw people making this stuff 15 years ago, it seemed like a thing a niche community was doing. I dont think anyone took it seriously. Its a genere of… music. If you want to call it that. They basically just speed up and pitch up the song to make it sound like its being sung by a mouse version of themselves and then boom nightcore remix.
