Hah, thanks. The original discussion thread I linked in my first reply was full of differing opinions on that topic but everyone was approaching it from a “this works for me but you do you” angle. I’m disappointed and apologize the same topic under this post was so inflammatory. That wasn’t even what the post was about.
Edit: Oh, I replied to this from the inbox but am now realizing this was addressed to the room .

Risa@startrek.website•(Ring ring) Hi, it's karma callingEnglish
3·1 day agoYeah, you got it. The point of the episode was that it was a difficult, near-impossible decision but someone had to make it, and as captain it fell to her. Clearly she didn’t derive any joy from it, and I would imagine it weighed on her heavily for a long time after, but it did let her basically bring her longtime friend (Tuvok) back to life as well as a valued member of the crew (Neelix). Tuvok was both tactical officer and chief of security and was critical (in the grand scheme of things) to getting Voyager home safely. So “needs of the many” applies to both Neelix and Tuvok as well as the rest of the crew.
I’ll make the Tuvix jokes because they’re fun, but “Tuvix” (the episode) explores a really complex moral dilemma that, as far as I’m concerned, has no right or wrong answer.
Edit: Thanks! That was kind of my thought when I registered this username. I thought I was being clever and original, but in the Trek novels I started reading after I had this username, iced raktajino is mentioned many times so it’s not quite as original as I thought haha.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are you doing with your spare solar power?
2·2 days agoI’m eventually going for a hybrid heat pump model but I mentioned a cheap electric resistive one as a preheater because it’s easy to use as a dump load

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are you doing with your spare solar power?
15·2 days agoI just got my two 314 AH batteries and 10KW inverter yesterday, so I’m not at the “spare solar power” point yet, but a lot of people will have a second electric water heater (in “front” of the main one) that acts as a dump load and pre-heats the water before it gets to the main tank.
I’m looking at getting a Slate EV truck hopefully next year, so that will also charge from my installation.
Grid-tie and exporting surplus PV generation isn’t an option for me due to electric company shenanigans.
I suppose when I do get to the excess PV point, I might just buy additional batteries

That’s suspiciously what Dave Grohl would wear if he just wanted some “me” time.
Lol, thanks, that’s what I was going for. Not whatever (gestures to the other thread) that is.

31·2 days agoPro tip: It’s still a puzzle if you take it apart and put it back together in the right order. Just a different type of puzzle lol.
(Taking the stickers off and rearranging them is still cheating though).
Let me worry about my own dogs, yeah? We do walk with a harness, putting on shoes (me) and collars (dogs) before we go out has been a literal routine for years, and they do always wear their collars when they’re new and in training for exactly the reasons you all are harping about. We even do emergency drills for things like tornado warnings where I say “danger, danger” and they know to head to the basement (where I keep backup collars + ID tags and vet records).
For fuck’s sake, it’s a cute dog meme and y’all are pouncing on one trivial line in the caption like I’m the worst animal abuser in the world for wanting my dogs to be comfortable around the house. There are too many miniscule-chance-of-that-ever-happening "what if"s to worry about that I’m not going to live my life in a safety bubble. The yard is fenced, we’re in suburbia, they’re both chipped, they’re both trained, they’re both socialized, the neighbors all know them, and we’re doing just fine thank you very much.
Geesh, the number of people around here who always have to be right is staggering and extremely off-putting.
Lots of people. We’re a “no shoes, no collar” house.
Both dogs are trained to not bolt out the door when it opens, and I’ve got a fenced yard.

These are all 90s cartoons, so if you can find them:
- Batman: The Animated Series (the one with Mark Hamill as the Joker)
- Animaniacs
- Tiny Toon Adventures
- Chip n’ Dale’s Rescue Rangers
Pinky and the BrainSaw you have that one already
