1·1 day agoThe problem with that is, every mod on reddit already has an account and likely will not notice anything based on this change.

2·9 days agoSo it outpaced the profit margins of scientific publishing? Damn! And that article is from 2020 and cited it as 40% for Elsevier, it certainly went up since but surely not to 90%.

Technology@lemmy.world•Xbox wants you to pay 24 to 40 cents per hour to stream games you already bought: Time-based a la carte charges come on top of the purchase price for the games themselves.English
10·9 days agoI think you are overestimating just how many big companies use a thin client-like system. But I admit I might be underestimating it. Out of personal experience, I used to work for a pretty big global company and every employee got their own work laptop to use. And that was a company with 30.000+ employees worldwide. So maybe that is my bias in this, and I would think companies like that wouldn’t so easily give up their digital sovereignty.

1·9 days agoYeah, it was a pretty good read, although the 4th and last one in the series dragged it a bit more than needed. But that is also the book revealing what I mentioned, so you do need to read them all if you are curious.
The first 2 books are pretty self-contained though and give some glimpse into the AI backstory but not the whole picture.

Technology@lemmy.world•Self-hosting Doesn't Actually Save You Money, And The People Who Promise It Does Are Setting Beginners Up To QuitEnglish
6·10 days agoWell, but if you do it together with pirating media it does save you quite a bit actually. And since you are doing it for training your local AI models it is obviously not illegal anymore either.
Sorry, don’t know about PS5, just mentioned in response to the other person. If you know PS5 can connect to a bluetooth controller it should work.
Edit: seems like you need a dongle and that one may not work with all 8bitdo’s https://gameloopx.com/blogs/news/are-8bitdo-controllers-compatible-with-ps5
Second that. My kid loves the 8bitdo Lite controller, much more than the Pro controllers or whatever they are called.

Technology@lemmy.world•Fairphone unveils Fairbuds 2 with replaceable battery, Sony LDAC and ANCEnglish
1·13 days agoYeah, can confirm. It wasn’t something that was important for me so if it is for anyone, do not buy these.
For me it works well enough at work in the office. Doesn’t block out everything but enough that I can concentrate on what I am doing.

Technology@lemmy.world•Fairphone unveils Fairbuds 2 with replaceable battery, Sony LDAC and ANCEnglish
16·13 days agoSeeing all the moderately negative reviews for the 1st gen earbuds they made, I just want to add, if you are in the market for over ear headphones, the fairbuds xl (I think that is what they are called), are pretty good in my opinion.
They also released a 2nd gen model of these like last year, I had mine since February or so, I really like them. I am no audiophile but they sound good to me.
The 1st gen model had some issues with stability of some plastic parts for some customers, I haven’t had any issues with these 2nd gen ones and I use them almost every day.
