The platinum rule is fine insofar as it’s true and not a bad thing to consider it just doesn’t make sense to me to chalk it up to another rule.

I don’t really think it is a better rule. For one thing, it’s encapsulated in the golden rule as I explained. For another thing the golden rule is phrased the way it is because it’s meant as an introspective idea. It’s meant as a heuristic when you can’t know how someone else might want to be treated, or when you are making a decision that might affect other people without full information of who they are or what they want.

Part of the reason we teach it to kids so that they can have an understanding that their actions affect other people to the same extent that other people affect them.

I think the nuance of the golden rule is that “treat others the way you want to be treated.” Implies that the way I want to be treated is that I want someone to consider that I might be different to them. If someone was unsure of how I want to be treated, I would want to be asked, or have them be considerate enough to avoid treatment they’re unsure about, therefore, I do the same. It doesn’t mean “punch someone because you want to be punched.” (To exaggerate).

The golden rule is perfect if you use that bit of nuance and we don’t have to make up a new rule.

  • “In one go” is a loose term here. You’re not going to feel pretty tomorrow no matter which way you slice it, but if you start at like 7pm and are up until like 1 or 2 in the morning that’s a lot of time to space out the drinking. For a 750 ml bottle that’s about 2.5 shots an hour. Bad for you, but doable. Not to mention they did not fill the cup up with a whole bottle.

    Source: have done.

  • Because your body naturally produces things you need to clean, it’s like 75% of the reason you do it. Eating stuff just speeds up the production of bacteria. Give your breath a smell as you wake up in the morning before you eat anything, it reeks.

You should brush your teeth in the morning whether you eat breakfast or not.

  • To point 3, I heard some author point out, and I think it makes a lot of sense, that reading bad writing can maybe tell you what not to do, but there’s so much good writing out there, more than you could read in a lifetime, that it just doesn’t make sense not to read all the best books. If you read in a world of excellent writing your standards are that high and you can still take lessons from the worst of the best.

Yeah the take plays against their point and into the hands of fascists. A common retort from “capitalists” goes “well why doesn’t your economic system compete on the free market? If it’s so good it will rise to the top.” You believing your ideology will defacto rise from a blank slate after society collapses lends credence to that argument. (Which is flawed in so many ways)
