russia cannot outrun the consequences of its own bullshitting
I read that russia is having a hell of a time rebuilding T72’s and T84’s due to when they were stored they got stripped out for their copper and other valuables during the fall.
Honestly, I hope russia doesn’t run out, their tanks and tank doctrine is so shitty their tank backlog/reserves are functionally a massive wonderful sunk cost fallacy. The gift that keeps on giving!
Also when the russians lose all that surplus armor will hit the market. I always wanted a BRDM.
Yeah and no one but braindead militaries will want them for actual war given how atrociously they have failed to keep russian soldiers alive so it will DEFINITELY be a private collector’s market for sure!
I got two buddies that own 100s of tons of armor chopping at the bit for this to end. They have all logistics in place, just need the war to end. I hope to piggy back with them for a BRDM. They are planning on tanks, yes plural tanks to add to their collections.
Its cool I guess, I can’t look at russian armor as anything other than murderous lies to their crews though.
In that sense all russian armor is drenched in blood whether it has been used in war or not.
I would rather have a cool offroad russian Ural truck or something, not weird play fantasy armor.
Like why does the BRDM even have “armor”? So the crew doesn’t get sunburned?
I get what your saying, tanks for me are too damn big. Also I have a soft spot for light recon vehicles like the BRDM and Ferret (Both buddies have a Ferret, so cool).
I figure BRDMs have light armor for small round ammunition as they are built to observe and get the hell out of dodge if they make contact. Also BRDMs have 8 wheels (4 hidden) and can traverse water. How cool would it be to go fishing of one?

We live in an age of drones, precision artillery and close air support, that is virtually everybodies plan until they get punched in the face.
That isn’t to say light armor isn’t useful, but the BRDM just has shit armor.
See the M1117 and associated family for an actually useful example of this type.
The ASV M1117 Guardian provides greater ballistic protection than any other wheeled vehicle of its size in the world. The external modular expandable armor system of ceramic composite material provides ballistic protection for the crew, ammunition, fuel tanks, and storage areas against 12.7mm armor-piercing ammunition. The ASV provides overhead protection against 60mm at 10 feet (3 meters) and 155mm ammunition at 50 feet (15 meters). It provides underbody protection against antipersonnel and antitank mines up to 12 pounds (5.4 kg) of TNT or equivalent explosives. This superior ballistic protection also includes a spall liner on the interior surfaces of the vehicle. The ASV M1117 can be also fitted with add-on armor.

For a patrol vehicle the ASV-150 is quite well armored. The armor package consists of the steel hull of the earlier V-150ST fitted with MEXAS ceramic and appliqué modular armor. This provides protection against 14.5mm rounds fired from long range, 12.7mm AP rounds from 250 m distance and shell splinters and small arms fire from point blank range. The vehicle may survive blasts of 5 kg TNT under the wheels or 2 kg TNT directly under the vehicle.
