Unfortunately laws don’t automatically apply inside private homes to women, children and other vulnerable people who are most ofter exploited by religious nonsense like this. They need to be enforced in some way.
Yeah I just looked up what Shariah law is and people should be free to observe practices voluntarily as a religion, but religious law should not be permitted to override equal civil rights or be imposed coercively on people who do not consent to it.
