I heard something like that too, but i just looked it up, and there are several articles from bigger newspapers quoting this mail, none added a correction or update saying that this mail is fake.
No, and obviously newspapers get stuff wrong or get fooled, but this would typically be the kind of thing they’d fact-check thoroughly, since it could be libelous about an extremely powerful person.
