A federal judge tossed out the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) lawsuit to access West Virginia’s unredacted voter rolls, which marks 13 straight court losses for the department’s floundering effort to seize sensitive voter data from every state.

U.S. District Judge Thomas E. Johnston, who was appointed by former president George W. Bush, granted West Virginia’s motion to dismiss DOJ’s lawsuit Monday. In a scathing order, Johnston found the department failed to make a sufficient legal argument for its demand of sensitive voter data.

President Donald Trump’s DOJ is on an impressive losing streak in its voter roll lawsuits. On Friday, a federal judge tossed DOJ’s lawsuit seeking New York’s unredacted voter roll for the same reasons that Johnston dismissed the West Virginia lawsuit. Last month, DOJ scored its first appeals court loss when a three-judge panel for the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals affirmed a lower court’s dismissal of the DOJ’s Michigan lawsuit. But Civil Rights Division chief Harmeet Dhillon, seemingly unfazed from losing, asked for a rehearing before the full Sixth Circuit.

WTF, seriously?! I haven’t been following that because I just assumed our SoS offered them up ages ago without even being asked.

I graciously accept this rare bit of good news relevant to my shithole state.

here’s the thing: the vast majority of what Trump does/tries to do gets overturned in court. like 99% of it. but, before it does, the devastating damage gets done. permenantly

for example: all that billions of dollars of public funding to the Corporation for Pubic Broadcasting that funded PBS, NPR, and thousands of public broadcasting stations nationwide that got shut down? Reversed in court. But the funding gone, as is the CPB, and all of the mechanisms of funding dispersement and the vast majority of the network of public broadcasting channels that took the better part of a century to build. You can’t just snap a finger and bring it back. not today, not tomorrow, not in a decade or even two.

the same goes for the hundreds upon thousands of programs and initiatives, etc. affected by Trump’s actions that court decisions have reversed/overturned/etc. The damage is done.

don’t even get me started on USAID

The best we can do is pick up the pieces and try to rebuild, but… eh…

Yup. Trump (and Miller who rode in with him) are destroyers, and it is a hundred times harder to build than it is to destroy.

They light matches and once the barn and every animal in it is burnt down, they leave, letting other people fight about whether it was right or not. While that happens, they are starting new fires, ad infinitum.

Noting that the judge was appointed by George Dubya, this in some way probably helped. It’s so strange to say, but when you compare standards and ethics of then vs now, there is a lot of “this is total horseshit” coming from the old Republicans.

You guys need a lot more of that “a common enemy” thing going on and put aside differences to work the US back to a place where you have the luxury of squabbling about differences again.

That’s why the Dems have to declare the Republican Party DEAD, and only refer to them as the MAGA Party from now on. The Dems HATE being called the Democrat Party, so MAGAs refer to them that way routinely now. The Dems have to flip the script, and do the exact same thing back.

Dems don’t like being called that, but it doesn’t mean anything but a lame insult. But if you declare the Republican Party to be absolutely DEAD, and it has been replaced by the MAGA Party, those old school Republicans are going to freak out.

The Republican Party supposedly supported Smaller Government, Lower Taxes, Fiscal Responsibility, Family Values, Law & Order, etc. Most of it was a sham, but that was their claim. The MAGA Party doesn’t endorse any of those issues, except maybe lower taxes, but only on the wealthy, and they are fully supportive of Corruption, Treason, Racism, EXTREME deficit spending, and of course, Pedophilia.

The Dems need to force the MAGA label and definition on the entire Republican Party, and make them disavow it, or accept it. Instead of making the Dems defend their reasons to retake power, make the MAGAs/Republicans go on the defense and defend why we should take our nation down the path of corruption and pedophilia.

“Senator, you claim to be a Republican, but that no longer exists, so how do you rationalize being an Official Pedophile, by your own MAGA Party’s definition?”

        Or

“Considering your MAGA Party’s strong defense of Pedophilia, how do you feel about issues like Child Labor Laws?”

        Or

“Considering the MAGA Party’s total acceptance of scammy operations like crypto, prediction markets, stock market manipulation, insider trading, Internet sports betting, etc., how involved are you in these platforms? Would you support legalization of these platforms for children? Would you support the legalization of Insider Trading for citizens, or will you continue to support insider trading only for Congress?”

It’s the MAGA Party now, they should be getting a lot of questions like that. Right now the old school Republicans are just biding their time until the Dems save them from themselves, but make them answer for MAGA crimes, and a LOT of old school Republicans will break ranks.

Man… The midterms and the 2028 elections are going to be fucking wild. It might very well be most/all of the states vs the feds.

DOJ sent letters to every state last summer, demanding state election chiefs hand over their full, unredacted voter rolls under the guise of “voter list maintenance…"

After most states refused to comply…

So which states just handed it over? Democratic candidates in those states should be screaming about the election integrity in their states. MAGAs are very sensitive about any talk of election interference, so the Dems should access that anger and steer it. After all, MAGAs are virtuosically stupid, it shouldn’t be too difficult to manipulate them. Tap into a deeply held grievance, stir it up, and point it at your target.

It’s all MAGA has been doing all along. No reason that Dems can’t take advantage of those same morons.

MAGA doesn’t care about election integrity. They’re upset they lost. Have you seen those “I’d rather be Russian than a democrat” shirts? It’s not about any kind of integrity, it’s about hating dems. They don’t think Trump and his admin are bad so they don’t see a problem with them having voter rolls. “Daddy’s home” in their minds and daddy can have and do whatever he wants. Standing in his way is the issue.

Affordability is potentially the best winning strategy at the moment.

Didn’t they just send the DOJ into Atlanta and do this? Or did they have a warrant first?
