Hey that’s how I got into computer repairs.
I was fooling around in the bios after giving in and pressing delete whole booting as it displayed.
I saw a password thing and decided it would be fun to be lock my computer so no one can fuck it up.
Righ after reboot my AUDHD brain had forgotten the password.
I tried calling computer repair shops arround me, most straight up asked for 60-100$, and some would plain refuse unless I had proof of purchase. Then one of them spoke too much, he said he would have to find a way to contour battery power and reset the cmos and charged 60$. That is when I remembered seeing a reset labeled jumper right by the battery. I decided to try, turns out it was that simple and not so simple. The password got erased… as well as all system settings such as hard drive settings (386 so need to know head, cylinder and sector count) was a fun adventure to get everything right again but removed all fears of trying. I figured if I can fuck it up I can fix it.
Kids these days. In my day we used to lock ourselves out of our own computers without any outside help.
