Maybe your father said that because he assumes all the workers are smooth brained lickspittles like himself. Shame he was too stupid to realize that those qualities made him perfect for management, rather than unsuited for it.

Maybe! On the other hand, he would read whole books on the clock so that’s pretty anti-management. People are complicated.
